NJ-Portland trade still alive(?)
Quote:
Earlier in the summer Mutombo and Kenyon Martin nearly became Trail Blazers in exchange for Rasheed Wallace (the Nets' reluctance to accept Ruben Patterson instead of the now retired Arvydas Sabonis ultimately killed it), but the two parties recently resurrected somewhat similar conversation. Those close to Wallace say he's been informed things have heated up again and something may still go down.
Chances are a third team must be incorporated into the trade for it to occur. For example, the Raptors are infatuated with Mutombo. In fact, they're offering to send Antonio Davis ($12M/$12M/$13M, plus a 15 percent trade kicker) to the Blazers as part compensation. Wallace would end up in New Jersey and Martin in Portland

I don't necessarily trust the source very much though.

Hmmmm...
I wish I could foresee the future. Will this be his breakout year?
Wallace could be the missing link.
Would be great to get rid of Deke's contract sooner rather than later.

I would perfer later, unless we can get a shorter contract without giving up talent... just a trade of needs.

Rasheed Wallace (who's reportedly in the best shape in his life) AND Dale Davis for K-Mart and scrubs? NJ would get a major steal with this trade. I don't see why the Blazers would do it.

Well, it says that Davis would be involved if there was a three-way sending Antonio Davis to Portland and Mutombo to Toronto.
Been trying to figure it out myself, but I can't get it to work out.

"I don't see any problem with me and Dikembe playing on the same team," the chiseled Mourning declared after notching a robotic 25 points Wednesday at the Garden in an all-star game that was so devoid of defense that Escalade and the rest of the touring And1 Mix team was appalled.

If we could somehow pull off a deal for them straight up...that would be so awesome. Sheed for Deke...no harm in dreaming.

All we gotta do is get sheed to want to come here, have him get portlands GM high, and then have Thorn call him while he's all messed up pull the trade off. Its the perfect plan.

Sheed has an expiring contract, their GM is not that foolish, although a Martin and Sheed package for KG might be tempting next season while we are on the topic of dreams.

I think that Portland would be insane to unload Wallace and Davis for Martin and scrubs. I know that many people in Portland would love to see Rasheed go they fail to understand that he is by far the best player on the roster. While not knocking Martin he can't do the things that Wallace does. The only part of Martins game that is better than Rasheed's is his willingness to go into the paint.
I think that this deal is dead and that Wallace might end up signing with Portland after this season for less money. I mean if he is not going to be a superstar he shouldn't be paid as one. That was Bob Whitsitt's doing and the free money in Portland is all gone. Look for Rasheed to get somewhere between 6 and 9 million next year from Portland. He might bolt, but I think that John Nash and Steve Patterson are willing to take that chance!
See Petey, I came out of the Blazer forum and padded your post count!
