Stamina

I just recently found out that I have the lowest stamina among all active people. I was having a pickup game with a couple of my friends at the Rec Center. Anyways, after just two plays on offense and defense, I'm sweating and gasping for air worse then Ghoti at a all womens club. I had to resort to grabbing and knocking down who I was guarding until i called timeout and collapsed on the side.

Anyone relate?

Re: Stamina

I was playing a little 2 on 2 the other day...and it was brutal. Thats why my teams name offically became team out-of-shape.

Re: Stamina

When playing sports and knowing you have low stamina, play with as much people as possible. That way, when you are wearing down and getting sloppy, others will probably pick it up if you're tired.

Take 2v2 basketball for example. When you are tired, your man takes advantage and scores since there is only one other defender. However, in a 5v5 game, chances are that help defense will come to save your lazy *** half the time!

If you're prone to asthma, this is a terrible season.

Regardless, stamina is easy to improve. I am so completely out of shape myself right now, but it only takes a few months to make significant improvement. You just need a consistent running program.

Not an asthma problem, Dumpy. Just completely out of shape. You're right about the running program thing.

I think this may be due to me not having any time to play basketball before that game. That was actually my first game in months especially since the cold weather just passed by. I was just completely winded but it's tough to stay in game shape. Really makes you appreciate how fit NBA players need to keep in shape.

Re: Stamina

as a general rule, you get out of shape at the same pace you get INTO shape. So, if you follow a six-week running program, if you stop cold turkey, you'll be back to square one in another six weeks. A good running program might involve running four-or five days a week: two or three times some mid-level distance at a challenging pace; once a week running a much longer distance at a jogging pace; and once a week running sprints (which when you include warmup, cool down, and slow jogs between sprints, could end up as much as 6-8 miles of running). Then, once or twice a week you do some low-impact cross-training exercise, such as swimming or bike riding. Then you take one or two days off.
