NOLA.com: All-Star guard won't say if he'll re-sign with team
Full Article
Quote:
For his part, Allen has done little to answer those doubts in 2 ½ seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics. Though the team will make the playoffs for the first time in the three years, the Sonics, who have been hit with a spate of injuries, have lost eight of their past 10 games.
Allen is expected to be one of the top unrestricted free agents available this summer. He has declined to say if he plans to re-sign with the Sonics or explore offers from a number of teams that could include the Hornets.

Hornets First Round Pick Chris Paul on playing with J.R. Smith:
"It's going to be too exciting to play alongside J.R. He loves to play above the rim and I love to put it above the rim for him to catch it. I'm just excited because he's a young, up-and-coming player just like myself."

Re: NOLA.com: All-Star guard won't say if he'll re-sign with team
Ray Allen could prove to be a great signing this offseason, I would most definately chase him. If your GM is any good, next season New Orleans has a good chance to be fighting for a playoff spot.
If the Hornets were to let everyone walk, they'd have $30 or so million in capspace under the current Salary Cap, and the CBA may change. If I'm GM, I re-sign - Dan Dickau
- Lee Nailon
- Jackson Vroman
- Casey Jacobsen
That would take under 6 million IMO, so that leaves $24 million in salary cap space
- Draft Andrew Bogut if you have the first pick, if not trade down to get Deron Williams
- Sign Ray Allen -- 5 years 58 million (leaving 13 million)
- That takes the lineup to: Jamaal Magloire/PJ Brown/JR Smith /Ray Allen/Deron Williams
- Fill out the rest of the roster, possibly go after Stromile Swift and Reggie Evans.
That team could most definately be competing for a playoff spot next season
Jamaal Magloire/Stromile Swift
Stromile Swift/ PJ Brown/Jackson Vroman
JR Smith/Lee Nailon
Ray Allen/Casey Jacobsen
Deron Williams/Dan Dickau

That sounds nice, theo!, thanks for taking some time to make this plan! Maybe you could directly send it to the Hornets front office
If we have this lineup next year we are playoff contender: with ray allen and a healthy and willing magloire 2 all-stars in the starting five, with J.R. Smith the future of the league and some nice other players!

Instead of Deron Williams I say just get Chris Paul.

Is JR Smith ready to play the 3?
I know that from a marketing perspective, getting Swift would be nice, but is he worth the type of dollars he is asking for?

That a problem I thought about too...Maybe he has to change positions with Ray Allen, J.R. Smith is a shooting guard who plays, if he can't play at SG or if he has to help out, also point guard, like he did sometimes in the past games...so maybe ray allen, j.r. and the drafted rookie could rotate a little bit!

no, he definately is not. right now he gets burned by quick sg's, but if switched to the 3 he would either be overpowered or too slow to gaurd pretty much any sf in the league. Im a huge sonics fan, their my number 2 team behind the hornets, but ray allen is almost over the 30 year old hump, and i just dont think hes worth the max money that hes asking for, but will probably get from a team that can afford it. I would MUCH rather see us pick up Joe Johnson, and draft a solid pg with our very high pick, or if marvin Williams declares then select him and get a nice pg through free agency. I would like to see us dedicate our top pick to a positition that can warrant starter minutes, because we definately need some youth in our starting 5. im a little hesitant at getting swift as well, because brown is still a very servicable PF and West still has potential, this IS only his second season and he missed over half with that knee injury.
I just hope that Byron is really serious about winning and stands up to our gm and owner and gets them to lay down some serious money this offseason.

Re: NOLA.com: All-Star guard won't say if he'll re-sign with team
Ray Allen would be a huge pick up. As would the Stro-Show. I think Yao Ming still has nightmares about Stromile. And you guys should draft Felton if you're going pg. He owns Paul.
Jamaal Magloire
Stromile Swift
Ray Allen/J.R. Smith
J.R. Smith/Ray Allen
Raymond Felton/Dan Dickau

Yeah, I'm also very high on Raymond Felton, he can hit the three from everywhere on the court! I'm sure, he and J.R. Smith would be THE future backcourt!
