ok guys (and ladies).. the current western conference stadings shape up to look something like this...

now what seemed like an impossible trip to the playoffs is within our reach. i know it's VERY early in the season and i can definitely see why speculation at this point seems absolutely absurd... however, if we played out the season at this pace, we'd be tied with denver for the 8th and final playoff spot at 41-41.. and our matchup in baton rouge over spring break would be huge. the series is split at 1-1 with the win over them last night, and the game would decide who made the playoffs IF the season was played out like i said, with both of us ending with the .500 records we hold now.. i honestly believed the hornets would be lucky to win 25 games this year, but like i said they are on pace for 41, and a possible trip to the playoffs.. i think this team needs to make it a goal to get in. that would give them a nice confidence boost, and get chris paul's career starting off on the right foot.. what is your say in this? and please don't bash me for saying anything about this so soon, because yes i understand how ridiculous it sounds for the new orleans hornets to be in the playoffs after being picked dead last in the NBA this preseason and having to cope with the hurricane.. they've come through a lot of adversity this year to get to where they are today..

even if we don't make the playoffs, i still believe the hornets will continue to improve over the years and become contenders around a solid rook in chris paul..

It would be wonderful if they made the playoffs this season but I don't see it right now. They are doing much better than last season though. Looking at the December schedule and it may be a difficult one. The Hornets are usually a playoff team but last season they did terrible. And they moved the Western Conference which is a harder conference to make the playoffs than the Eastern Conference. But I must say after everything that has happened, it's not as far fetched as some may think. They've just got to keep playing hard. It would be great if we had a legit center too.

I wont be disappointed with another lottery pick. We need a C badly and no one is going to want to come her in the FA anyway. Lets hang back for one more year, grab a C and then show up in the playoffs. Im not one that thinks making the playoffs as a perrenial 7 seed is a good thing. I want to be a top team, and the draft is how ya get there.

But these boys are playing their *** off and I'm proud. I defended the Hornets through thick and thin and Im happy we are playing well...

Jsimo12, any idea which nice centers are coming out this year? I will be watching all the college b-ball I can to get a feel for some.

yeah good points fellow hornet fans.. but i looked on nbadraft.net for some potential C's to pick up in the draft, and the first pure C on the board was going number 28 to the mavs.. i'd like to see us get lamarcus aldridge if he comes out early and we have the option of picking him up.. he's got about the most size out of anybody on there (6'11'' 245 soph PF).. i think our best chance picking up a pure C is through free agency or trades.. if we have a good season, it will make it easier to pick guys up because nobody wants to play on a losing team and the hornets are looking to be solid in the future.. i think they've impressed some people.. and having a damn good young PG and is more than willing to distribute the basketball to get guys their share of points definitely will help the hornets in their search for a big man..

on NBAdraft.net, there are two centers listed on their entire mock, and like i said they have the first one going 28, Mirza Begic, a 7'2'' euro center.. and Kosta Perovic, who is also a 7'2'' euro.. no college centers were on the board.. and i'm not saying what nbadraft.net says goes, but that's just where i look to see possible NBA picks..

To me NBAdraft.net is one of the worst draft sites there is. Lamarcus Aldridge is a good choice but I dont think we will have the pick to get him. He looks like a top 5er and if we stay around .500 we wouldnt have a top 5...

yeah i actually agree with that.. they've are never all that accurate about picks. i'm just used to going there. it's like a bad habit.. and if we do indeed miss the playoffs, we will have a shot no matter what at a decent pick.. the odds aren't on our side by any means, but there is always that chance with the lottery..

How many picks do we have for this draft?
Maybe we are lucky enough to find some team, and trade 2 picks for a higher one...(I think we earned a pick in the big trade, or the Dickau trade)

Any way, it seems that the easier and faster way to get a good center is via trade or free agency.
Ben Wallace is in his last contract year, but I just don't think he'll give us a chance to pursue him.
