Chandler:Center of Attention..

In his previous game at the Ford Center a week ago, Tyson Chandler looked dazed and in pain as he was helped off the court with a concussion he suffered when he was hit by an elbow from Charlotte's Sean May.

Things were considerably better for the Hornets' 7-foot-1 center Tuesday night against the defending NBA champion Miami Heat, although several weeks ago Chandler anticipated the game would be one of his toughest physical battles.

But that was before Heat center Shaquille O'Neal underwent knee surgery this past weekend, which will keep him sidelined four to six weeks. In the Hornets' 101-86 rout of the Heat, Chandler mostly banged against Heat backup center Alonzo Mourning.

The Heat (4-6) is not the same team without O'Neal, even with All-Star guard Dwyane Wade increasing his scoring to make up for O'Neal's absence. Wade finished with a game-high 29 points Tuesday, but the Heat lost for the sixth time in 10 games.

The Hornets (8-3) claimed their fourth consecutive victory and remained perfect at home in four games. Chandler grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds and scored seven points, had three steals and blocked a shot.

"Shaquille is one of the greatest of all time," Chandler said. "any time you are missing that, it's going to be a little different. I was just being aggressive, trying to help get us some second shots and some easy looks. Every night, I'm going to give the effort defensively and rebound the ball."

More

As of this writing, Chandler is averaging 6ppg, 11.5rbs.

Chandler is really doing as or even better from what I expected, he's grabbing those boards like no other.

Re: Chandler:Center of Attention..

I will admit that I have been wrong so far.He hasn't done anything like the volume of bad stuff that he did in Chicago,in fact he's been pretty good about catching the ball and not turning it over.I still hate the length and size of his contract, but if he continues to play like this it's not that bad.

Potential rebounding champions are max contract players.

Defense and rebounding come first and foremost when putting together championship caliber squads. From a philosophical standpoint, Chandler is a relative bargain. He won't peak until the 2009-2010 season, or thereabouts.
