Seattle Sonics (21-32) @ New Orleans Hornets (26-29)..2/23/07

Maybe no team knows how important a healthy starting lineup is as much as the surging New Orleans Hornets.

The Hornets look to continue their strong play when they host the Seattle SuperSonics in New Orleans on Friday.

Chris Paul, David West and Peja Stojakovic -- the Hornets' three primary offensive options entering the season -- have missed a combined 89 games because of injuries. While Stojakovic is still recovering from lower back surgery, West and Paul are healthy again, and the Hornets (26-29) are reaping the rewards.

After opening the season 12-22, New Orleans has gone 14-7, including wins in seven of its last 10 games. With Wednesday's 111-107 victory over New Jersey, the Hornets pulled into an eighth-place tie in the Western Conference.

I think this is the first game that West has played against the Sonics this season.

I don't think West played against them either. The last time we played them CP got hurt and David had just had surgery. Well, I'm on my way to the arena. Hopefully, they can pull out a win.

Great win! Nail biter at the end but glad they pulled it out. I enjoy watching Tyson. He and West are good together. The Hornets' offensive rebounding killed the Sonics.

Recap

Quote:
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- David West had 23 points and 11 rebounds to help the New Orleans Hornets move into the eighth spot in the Western Conference with a 98-97 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Friday night.

Tyson Chandler added 15 points and 19 rebounds for New Orleans (27-29), which moved ahead of idle Golden State (26-29) by a half game for the last playoff spot in the West.

Chris Paul finished with 13 points and played a crucial role in the final minute. He rebounded Ray Allen's missed jumper, then ran the shot clock down inside of five seconds before darting behind Chandler's screen and hitting a jumper to give New Orleans a 98-94 lead with 38 seconds left.

Rashard Lewis' 3-pointer with 30 seconds to go cut the lead to 98-97. Paul then ran down the clock again, but missed with 6.6 seconds to go, giving Seattle one more chance to win it. Allen took a difficult shot from the left wing at the buzzer, which rimmed out.

Allen finished with 32 points for the Sonics, who saw their recent winning streak end at three games. Lewis had 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Earl Watson scored 18 for Seattle.

Bobby Jackson scored 17 and Desmond Mason 10 for the Hornets, who weathered early season injuries and have now won 11 of 15 games to get back into playoff contention with 26 games left in the regular season.

Chandler's improved play has been a big part of New Orleans' resurgence. He's had a double-double in points and rebounds in all but one of the Hornets' 11 games this month.

Look at Rashard Lewis in this pic. He's probably wishing he had taken that last shot.

This is the last shot...thank goodness he missed.

That was a good game. My throat hurt and I'm tipsy, so this was a really good game. Nail biter all the way to the end. D. West and T. Chandler are playing like they are possessed. If we get Peja back this year, I can see us making some noise going into the playoffs.
