After routing the worst team in the Eastern Conference, the New Orleans Hornets hope a meeting with the worst team in the NBA -- the Memphis Grizzlies -- will help spur their playoff run on Tuesday.

New Orleans (30-37) routed Boston 106-88 on Monday behind the team's best shooting performance in more than a month. The Hornets went 40-for-76 from the field (52.6 percent) -- their highest percentage since making a season-high 57.7 percent in a 100-93 win over Sacramento on Feb. 14.

"They looked focused more than anything. I didn't sense any tension or anything like that," Hornets coach Byron Scott said. "I just sensed a team that looked pretty focused from the start."

The victory, which was also powered by 16 points and 11 rebounds from Tyson Chandler, was only the Hornets' second in the last nine games. While New Orleans moved 1 1/2 games behind Golden State for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Western Conference, Scott feels the team should focus on each game rather than qualifying for its first postseason appearance since 2004.

So far this is an offensive shootout. No defense being played by either team. The Hornets cannot afford a 3rd quarter slump tonight. 61-61 at the half.

Good win!

The Grizzlies tried to make a strong push in the 4th but the Hornets held on. Now they need some help from the Bulls (who are currently down 8 to the Clippers with 1:07 to go) and the Jazz who are down 6 to the Warriors at the start of the 4th.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- David West scored 26 points, and Chris Paul added 23 points and nine assists to lead the New Orleans Hornets to a 114-103 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

West connected on 10-of-15 shots from the floor, leading six Hornets in double figures. Tyson Chandler had 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting, 11 rebounds and three blocks, while Rasual Butler finished with 15 points, and Desmond Mason had 14.

Pau Gasol led Memphis with 28 points and 10 rebounds and hit 11 of 14 shots. Mike Miller scored 13 points, all in the first quarter, while Rudy Gay, Dahntay Jones and Chucky Atkins scored 12 points each. Tarence Kinsey had 10.

New Orleans built their lead in the third period, by connecting on 11 of their 16 shots. The Hornets were shooting 62 percent from the field entering the final period and finished with a 59 percent night from the field.

New Orleans extended the lead to 18 in the early minutes of the fourth. The Hornets lead would eventually reach 20, and although the Memphis reserves cut it to 110-101 in the closing minutes, New Orleans held on for its third win in the last four games after starting the month 0-6.

hard to believe this team could be a half game out of the playoffs.If they could have beaten teams like Memphis consistently they'd have a nice grip on a spot.

Great victory and it is very very important

In first half both teams played without defense, but in second Hornets make them defense better and keeped the same offensive force like in first half

At least we can get some fun with this season, I love seeing players like Rasual wearing Hornets uniforms.

Yaeh, this part of season is really unpredictable... There are 3 teams and just one of them gonna reach 8th spot... It gonna be great fight... Yeah I was really surprised yesterday when I saw how Butler is good sniper...
