Hornets already at work...
Some players ready for training camp, season by practicing at the Alario Center
On opposite ends of the floor of the Alario Center on Monday, forward Cedric Simmons worked on post moves, while guard Jannero Pargo took jump shots.
Nearby, Tyson Chandler and Hilton Armstrong shot free throws. All four worked out for nearly four hours, doing many of the same drills that Hornets Coach Byron Scott puts the team through during the regular season.
But they weren't preparing for an opponent. Instead, they volunteered to get a jump on conditioning before training camp begins Oct. 2.
Since last week, the Hornets have had up to seven players participate in volunteer workouts, including point guard Chris Paul and swingman Morris Peterson.
"It's good for the atmosphere and for the culture of the team to have guys anxious to go to work," Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower said. "Given our situation this year, it makes a lot of sense for guys to be here early and get settled into their home environments as well."
Some players are practicing early to improve on weaknesses, while others show up because they know Scott plans to conduct a tough training camp and competition among backups at several positions is expected to be intense.

Re: Hornets already at work...
John Reid blogged about Paul regaining his quickness.
It was obvious after the first few minutes during a pickup game involving some of his teammates Tuesday, that Chris Paul has regained his quickness since having a pin surgically inserted in his left foot in April.
Near the free throw line at the Alario Center, Paul spun so quickly that when Jannero Pargo tried to defend, Paul was already on his way to the basket for a layup.
"It's been a long summer with rehabilitation, but I think getting back here has got me feeling more confident," Paul said.
Paul began participating in volunteer workouts with his teammates last week.

^^ I sure hope so Yao Mania. This was their 2nd attempt at trying to get him so I hope it was worth the effort. I think he'll work well with the team also.

Re: Hornets already at work...
I was real happy to read this article today. I'm glad MoPete arrived earlier this month to get a jump on this season. I'm hoping he can come in and help us make it to the playoffs this year.

Re: Hornets already at work...
Here' another article on Peterson..
Heading into this offseason’s free agency blitz, New Orleans Hornets general manager Jeff Bower claimed the team wouldn’t be making a big splash in free agency. Most fans and pundits agreed with Bower after last summer's spending spree.
This is one of the few times that Bower will be happy with being wrong. Midway through July the Hornets decided to dabble in the open market and signed Morris Peterson to a four-year contract worth an estimated $23 million.
“Morris was our top free agent target this summer,” gushed Bower at the press conference to introduce Peterson.. “He is a reliable veteran scorer who can stretch the defense with his three-point range, which is exactly the role we were looking to fill.”
Last season the Hornets ranked a respectable 10th in three point percentage (36.2%) but played most of the season without Peja Stojakovic after he missed 13 games with a back injury. With Peterson in the mix, head coach Byron Scott has two legit marksmen to balance the inside presence of David West and Tyson Chandler.
