Thoughts on Mo Pete....starter or bad signing?
I just wanted to get a feeling for what you guys think about Mo's role this year for your team.
He had some good years in Toronto, not great but ok. He is limited to spot up shooting, not very good at creating his own shot, he wont dunk on anyone, and is not a great rebounder. He will take a charge, but little of anything else.
does he have a role on your team, or will Scott go in another direction?

Mo will start this year. He took it to the basket a few times this past Monday, so I really don't see him as just a spot up shooter. He's trying to learn our offense right now and I expect him to be a major contributer for us this year. As of now, I love this signing.

Re: Thoughts on Mo Pete....starter or bad signing?
Why does it have to be starter or bad signing? Is there nothing in between (role player, contributor)? LOL! But seriously, as bee-fan stated, Mo is slated to start at shooting guard. I think he will fit in well once he gets the offense down. We're not necessarily looking for him to be a dunker, although he can dunk.
Oh and on the note of Mo not being able to create a shot for himself, while it's always good to be able to do so, with a pg like CP that will be more than happy to create, Mo may not have to worry about it so much.

I don't know quite how old these highlights are but to me it doesn't look like Mo has problems creating his own shot and he looks to be a pretty nice dunker. He don't need to dunk on anyone. We have Tyson and Julian for that. LOL!

Unless Stojakovic and/or David West or Chris Paul go down, I don't see MoPete scoring more than 12 PPG or so, which is not a bad thing at all. I think he was signed to fit a certain role and that is to provide another shooting/defensive threat, two things that we know he does well.

Re: Thoughts on Mo Pete....starter or bad signing?
The MoPete that stands out for me is the MoPete that took the Raptors franchise on his back when Vince Carter was out with injuries a good few years back. During that time he showed a lot of versatility, putting up 20+ point games consistantly and was a very well-rounded player.
Nowadays though, I really don't know what MoPete can bring anymore... he's still a good player, but it's almost as if he's settled into being a role player and not bringing that extra "something" that seperates the stars from the others. I wouldn't lock him for the starting spot just yet.

But Scott has already said he'll be starting so it's sounding like a lock to me. We know Mo isn't a star. I expect him to give us at least what Mason did with maybe not as much defense as Mase. His role was diminished last season and I don't know what that reason was. Was he lacking? Did Mitchell want to go in a different direction? Because in 05-06, he appeared to have had a pretty nice season.

Re: Thoughts on Mo Pete....starter or bad signing?
The Hornets needed a shooting guard or they wouldn't have paid Peterson that much. They want Jackson to back up both guard positions so that means Peterson is starting. It's not a good contract, but there weren't many good SG's available in free agency.
Either way Peterson is just a roleplayer. The hornets have been a horrible perimeter shooting team and they have one of the very best penetrating guards in the league. He's going to get open shots and the Hornets are counting on him to hit them. It's a lot more nuanced than starter or bad sighting.FOr that matter he could end being both or neither.

It could be a confidence thing, or maybe he's starting to decline (for you guy's sake I hope that isn't the case!).

Well gee Yao Mania. I can hardly stand all the optimism you're bringing to this board during this preseason.
