Hornets center's home, property devastated by catastrophic event
Tyson Chandler's smile beamed on the King family, while the Hornets' center squeezed each New Orleanian like he was a linebacker.
Some of the Hornets' wives, including Kimberly Chandler, organized a donation of household goods and furniture to families still struggling from Hurricane Katrina. Before Wednesday's preseason game against the Hawks, the 7-foot-1 Chandler met the King family, which was oblivious to the fact that he could share in their pain.
Earlier in the day, the Chandlers found out that their home and property outside of San Diego, which they purchased in 2006, had burned in the wildfires.
"A whole five acres -- just burnt down," Tyson Chandler said of his home in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. "But, we're blessed, we're doing something for families that have struggled after Katrina. We're still blessed and fortunate to do things for other people."
