Hoopsworld: Hornets:10 Games In

Cool article on the Hornets.

Your early leader in the Southwest Division?

Nope, it's not the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs. It also isn't a Dallas Mavericks squad that won 67 games last season. And it isn't even the rebuilt-for-success Houston Rockets.

The buzz in arguably the toughest division in the Association is coming from the New Orleans Hornets, off to a franchise-best 9-2 start. Although many are indeed surprised by what the Hornets have accomplished thus far, Chris Paul told HOOPSWORLD this summer that the team has been built to win.

"I think we all complement each other," Paul said about a team built around his skills as a distributor. "The way I think they're putting our team together is so we can make each other better because I think that's what truly makes a team."

The team's success can be directly related to the fact they're healthy. Until Saturday night, when Jannero Pargo started because of Paul's sprained ankle, the Hornets were able to start the same five players in all 10 of their games: Paul, Morris Peterson, Peja Stojakovic, Tyson Chandler and David West.

That certainly wasn't the case last season, when the Hornets lost the newly-acquired Stojakovic and Bobby Jackson for 69 and 26 games, respectively. West also sat out 30 games due to a mysterious forearm injury that eventually resulted in surgery on West's right elbow.
