Hi guys,
Last week I spent my spring break in New Orleans doing volunteer work with the 1st Street recovery project to help rebuild homes (Katrina). On wednesday I went to the Hornets vs. Hawks game and it was such a wonderful experience I wanted to share it.
A group of 10 volunteers went to the game and we all bought the $10 tickets in the nose bleed section. Naturally we wanted to get closer so 5 of us went to the lower section before tip-off (suprisingly we were not stopped by security). We sat in the 5th row for the first quarter and then someone came and we were in their seats so we tried moving up a row but security saw us and made us go back to our nosebleed seats. In the third quarter me and my buddy Carl moved down to the lower section again and sat in about the 6th row. We got on the jumbotron doing some chicken dance. And we won the promotional boat race for free appitizers at Copelands cheesecake bistro. (After the game we rang up a $176 bill for free!) Then in the 4th quarter we moved up to the 1st row! We weren't courtside because the staticians were in front of us. After the game I went over to the fence by the tunnel to give high 5's to the players nd try to get a headband or something. I look down and Carl is walking into the tunnel with the players! so I decided to as well. Back in the tunnel he met Chris Paul and got a handshake and a chest bump. He asked Chris for a picture but he said "Naw, not right now" so Carl held the camera back and snapped. Then after that was over we went back out to the court and got our pictures taken with the honeybee's. And we actually shot a few fake shots on the court and nobody stopped us. It was an awesome experience.
The next day, Thursday, Carl was out in the French Quarter raising some money for our recovery project by asking for donations and he saw Tyson Chandler. He was a block away so he sprinted up to him and Tyson talked with him for a few minutes. I guess he was doing a photo shoot that day.
Friday 8 of us went to the Nets game and we got free tickets from my buddies dad. They were nose bleed seats but we went into the lower section. The first time we tried they wouldn't let us down there so we waited until the forth quarter and then they didn't hassle us. We sat in about the 10th row. After the hornets won my friend Jeff got Sean Williams head band. Then my friend Evan said "Is that Marv Albert?" and I said no. But we went closer and it was! He was there broadcasting for the Nets. We waited about 20 minutes for him to finish his broadcast and we all met him. He was a really nice guy. Also we met Joe Johnson a Hall of Famer that played for the New Orleans Saints. I didn't know who he was but I guess he was pretty good. There was no promo boat race that game, but we asked some people about it and they said that the restaurant that wins is notified before the game so we collected the coupons and called the restaurants. We found the one that was supposed to win and we went and ate over 100$ of free food again
I love Hornets games and the city of New Orleans!
