Jerome James: Knicks Lack A Leader
Quote:
Jerome James knows what a winning team feels like as he experienced Seattle's monster season a year ago.
And James knows that feeling hasn't taken root with the 5-11 Knicks, who face the Sonics tonight to start a three-game West Coast trip at Key Arena.
Referring to the prodding James took from teammate Ray Allen last season in Seattle, the Knicks center responded he wishes more of that went on in the Knicks' locker room.
In a very candid statement about a potential leadership void, James said, "This team needs to go through some of that. If you're not fighting with each other when you're losing, then what's the true test of your team chemistry. That's how you get close together, through arguments and fights. "If everything is always so grand, great and hunky-dory when you're losing, then it almost feels nobody cares. We're starting to get in those arguments and tiffs around here, so I think we're on the right track."
In a pointed dig at his two marquee centers, Brown said Butler is now their best pivot. James believes it's too soon to count him out. After all, joining the Knicks was his dream job, too, he contends.
"I love the Sonics," James said. "They made a strong campaign to get me back. All my life I wanted to be a New York Knick. I really mean that." James claimed the Knicks were to draft him in 1998 with the 38th pick before Sacramento took him two spots earlier. James also visited the Knicks as a free agent in 2001, but Scott Layden refused to match Seattle's three-year offer.

Re: Jerome James: Knicks Lack A Leader
what is a leader going to do... make him ne better? the dudes a tall waste of height! no matter what you do, he stinks. he's clumsy. i've been questioning y the front office aquired him since the beginning. hes just a bum, he has no right to say nething. if they don't have a leader, he should step up to the plate and pick up his game.

Re: Jerome James: Knicks Lack A Leader
yeah, Ray was basically Jerome's babysitter last year....I think JJ misses that. I doubt Ray does, lol.

Jerome loves to talk. Often times you shouldn't take him too serious. He's fun to laugh at though.
Quote:
On Rashard Lewis' DUI arrest: "I'd like to meet the cop who arrested him. I know he is doing his job, but I still think he is a [obscenity]. Rashard is too good of a guy. He could arrest somebody who is a [jerk], who doesn't do anything for the community. If [Rashard] had somebody in the car with him, let them take him home. Or let somebody else get behind the wheel … I hate to see something like that happen to Rashard Lewis. And I don't care what people say about my comments, I love Rashard."
• On returning to Seattle: "This is actually a sad occasion. It's bittersweet. I am happy to be in this situation, but I miss Ray, Rashard, Flip, Reggie, Cleaves, Luke, Nick, everybody. I wish I could have been here to help Robert Swift out a little more. He looks like he needs it."

Re: Jerome James: Knicks Lack A Leader
I agree w/Fatman James and i think that we need a reliable pg. Not necessarily someone that will dazzle or put up big numbers but someone who will simply be relied upon not to take stupid shots/passes and handle the ball reliably getting the ball to teamates where they are most comfortable. Our pgs our high risk high reward in terms of their decision making. They'll either turn it over embarrassingly or make a spectacular layup, shot, alley-oop. We need someone who basically wont take risks and who will settle the most efficient decisions.
