What the Hell is Going On?

Larry Brown's teams have always been known for their slow starts, especially in the start of his tenures, but our play is simply unacceptable. The fact is, we are regressing right now as a team, and therefore fingers are pointing everywhere. When the season began, although we started 1-5, there was a good feeling that this team was going to break out. The defense was strong, the heart and committment were in full effect, and we even notched a couple of wins. In watching a game such as the one we beat the Bulls, us Knick fans were able to see what this team could do if playing at full potential; playing agressive D, getting to the foul line, rebounding, finding the open man, and getting the rock to the hot hand (jamal). Now, it seems everyone except jamal is afraid of getting hot and letting loose. We are bound by this so called right way to play Larry speaks so highly of. Actually, Larry, we're playing the absolute wrong way. We can't defend the pick and roll, turn the ball over, and have no chemistry on either side of the ball. The rookies are the only guys besides Jamal who have provided any type of spark for us this season. No, I do not count Mo Taylor's 3 hooks a game, or Malik's bassline J.
Now Knick fans are booing Marbury (Im a season ticket holder, vs the Nets was the worst Ive heard yet), and rightfully so. The facts is he is not a great player, he is a great talent. There is a difference. His whole career he has been expected to lead a young team to the playoffs. The TWolves with Garnett (they were both barely 20), the Nets (early stages of rebuilding, just got KMart), and the Suns (Amare, and Joe). Whats the result? One first round playoff exit. What happened afterwards? Better leaders and players such as Nash and Kidd replaced him and lead their teams accordingly. The fact is, we cant trade em, no one wants em. What are we really gonna do, and if we are really rebuilding, how long will this take. Just putting a mismatched collection of guys under 25 doesnt equal a rebuilding project. This team was supposed to be 40 win caliber this season, now, we are the brink of what could be the longest stretch of losing the Knicks have ever had in their franchise history. What do we do? What can be fixed? and finally, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON????

Rebuilding successfully

...requires the right combination of young guys and vets. We have talent, as you said, but we don't have the right chemistry or combination of players. Chicago is close but will go only as far a Chandler can take them and he is not progressing as expected. Denver was close but injuries have killed them. At this point, I really believe we have to keep the young guys and try to trade for one impact player while trying to clear some salary to match Houston's coming off the books. It may be possible to get one of the big FAs to come to NY if: we can show any promise (and maybe they can get a bigger endorsement deal by being in NY) and can offer a contract extension for the max if we manage to get under the cap. Not sure but if we can clear H2O, Marbury, Penny, AD, plus Rose and Taylor, we should be under. Might take 2 years but its do-able, I think. Maybe we can offer a FA a 2 year contract with the ability to max him out over time. NY has a rep for taking care of their players. A lot od ifs but possible.
