Managing and Coaching: Pro or Con

Do you guys believe that one man holding both the title of General Manager/President as well as Coach is ideal? I always wondered about the question since before Isiah has been given the responsibility of both. I'll chime in with my opinion later on but I'm curious what you guys think.

i dont think its ideal but it gives some real advantages .

virtually no player coach dissension because the coach can get rid of you .

allows for the choice of optimum trade value because you can showcase guys to make them look good , possibly better than they are.

unity in the coaching/front office , no coach bashing players and rumors the front office upset with them causing dissension among the coaching staff, what Zeke says essentially goes for every1 except the players.

it brings some problems but in the knicks case it may be more help than harm.

You stole what I was going to say right out of my mouth. With the right people around him, I believe someone who shares both titles can do a more efficient job because they know what their vision is and exactly what they need to fulfill it. You won't ever get another Isiah Thomas/Larry Brown or Grunfeld/Van Gundy situation in this case. Of course their is alot of work to do both jobs but that's what assistants are made for. Hire assistants specialized to take care of one aspect of work and I think it's possible to not have a work overload.
