Question Can The Steph-Francis Backcourt Work?

Quote:
Can the Stephon Marbury-Steve Francis backcourt work?

Marbury and Francis said it can. "I know it will," Francis said yesterday. "You've got to be friends also and we've already accomplished that before I was traded here . . . We're guard-heavy, but I still think we can do it."

They could be a prolific tandem, or they could be a total bust. History, though brief, suggests the latter. The Knicks went 2-7 last season when the two started together. Francis averaged only 10.8 points per game as a Knick.

Something's got to give. But if anyone can relate to Marbury and get his game to fit in with the personnel, it is Isiah Thomas.

"I don't think Isiah can get the best out of me as a basketball player; I think I'm the only person that can do that," Marbury said. "I think what Isiah brings to the table is, he's another tool that can help me stay sharp and help me be the player I need to be to help us go where we want to go."

I personally don't think it will work and I rather see Jamal get the start. Isiah has time to make the adjustments early on in the season before it's too late. I give it a good month, and if things don't work out make the changes.

A month-2 months sounds fair to me. I really don't know if it will. I see no reason why it can't though if Marbury and Francis both want to win.

Re: Can The Steph-Francis Backcourt Work?

the 3 best players at the moment are jamal crawford, francis and marbury .

it can work if they are given the freedom and time to make things happen, to do this it probably means more 3 guard line ups than people are anticipating, and taking minutes from small forwards Qrich balkman and jeffries.

against alot of lineups this is a good idea...against some others not so much .

I want to go on record with saying making curry the focus of the offense is fool's gold , he is much better finding spots to hurt teams in a quick hitting offense...but bogging the offense down to make curry a primary decision maker is a disaster waiting to happen.

i also like the idea of jalen staying on the roster as a pg/sf...he played pg under zeke in indy so he knows the offense and can run it well...at times the knicks can really give it to teams letting jalen run things and putting some combination of JC , francis or marbury in a pure scorer mode...i dont really see to many backcourts with defenders enough to stop 2 threats like them.

Great piece, DaGrinch

Let me add that Marbury did a suprising good job with Little Nate in the backcourt with him last season as starters.
The main objective for Coach Isiah is to let Marbury/Francis run the Point the whole 48 minutes of every game.
Their should be no more Crawford & Nate Backcourt on the floor with PG-Marbury & PG-Francis on this Knick Roster.
And Q.Rich is NOT a GUARD (offensively or defensively)!!!

Jalen Rose is a Point-Foward that always lacked defense (But he is ten times better than Q.Rich at his age, and so is ole Jim Jackson).
