Turning point or mirage?
Quote:
Were those really the Knicks I saw last night at Madison Square Garden?
Before the season started, I said that Isiah Thomas would be a better coach than GM. After their miserable first eight games, I started to doubt my words.
But, last night, as I witnessed from Section 338 of the Garden, the Knicks looked like the team I envisioned them to be.
Unfortunately, not too many others were there to witness this breakthrough - the arena had an embarrassing amount of empty seats. But still, I was thoroughly entertained by the Knicks' 102-82 dismantling of the Wizards.
It's not just that the Knicks won the game. Yes, they needed the win badly, as all the empty seats emphatically declared. But they played an entertaining, fast-paced style of basketball. And they played great defense - holding the top-scoring team in the NBA to just 82 points. If you weren't there - and you probably weren't - you wouldn't believe it.
I have been harping about giving their young players a chance to show their stuff. And Isiah is doing that now.
Renaldo Balkman, David Lee and Nate Robinson were all terrific last night. In his limited time this season, Balkman has been great defensively and active on the boards. Last night, he shocked me by leading the team with 18 points. Who knew he had this offense in him?
As for Lee, a few people disputed my claim that Lee is a "monster rebounder." Well, how about "Chairman of the Boards"? Last night Lee had 15 rebounds (and 10 points) in 28 minutes. Those are Dennis Rodman-like numbers.
And then there's Little Nate, who I think is fast becoming the fan favorite. He lights up the Knicks with his energy level every time he comes on the floor. Last night, I was eagerly awaiting his entrance in the game even while the Knicks got off to a rare good start. He finished with 11 points in just 16 minutes. He is the Knicks' version of Vinny Johnson, "The Microwave" who was instant offense for the Pistons a few years back.

Re: Turning point or mirage?
I dont really think it is a turning point, nor mirage, but a "start" you cant expect them to win 20 more games in a row possible even half of that, but it is a good staart for the knicks. im not sure it was pure coincidental that gilbert arenas played not with the intensity he usually plays with, or maybe its just the help w got from the fans. Either way, its a good motivation starter to know that one of the worst teams in the NBA beat a decent team by 20 points.

Re: Turning point or mirage?
Yes' this was a Turning-Point for the Knicks.
The Knicks Coach & Roster actually prepared for their oponents (The Wizards) a day early.
It was seen in the Knicks game with Marbury, Francis, Crawford, and Nate all taking turns on causing Gilbert Arenas havoc in controlling the tempo of the game while the Knicks Guards was not selfish for the first time this season in leading the team in the most shots taking (They actually let the Frontcourt Players take as many shots as posible to score, which they did.).
The preparation had alot to do with the Wizards EX-Player Jared Jefferies knowing Coach Eddie Jordan playbook for Arenas.
It is ashame that the Knicks best defensive Players happen to be their bench-players, plus the best meshing unit that has a balance of chemistry on both sides of the court for the Knicks are their bench-players (grabing every defensive rebound).
I guess, if one would not like to mess-up the production of the Knicks Bench-Players and what they bring to the court, then one have to keep the same Starting Unit until they can resolve their problem together this way one can see the improvement of the bench-players progress together as the season goes on.
I always said this Knick Roster is a TWO-UNIT Team...
