Fans Boo Jared Jefferies
Quote:
Shawn Marion drove the lane for an easy layup in the closing seconds of the first half, easily getting around the player whose arrival Isiah Thomas once predicted would greatly help the Knicks on defense.
One fan behind the basket yelled out: "Hey, Jeffries, what are you doing in there?"
The MSG faithful's infatuation with getting David Lee into the starting lineup has resulted in another Knick becoming one of their official targets, as starting forward Jared Jeffries was booed more than once during last night's 112-107 loss to Phoenix at the Garden.
Jeffries played only a handful of minutes for the second consecutive game, despite starting both, and heard it from the crowd each time he was announced coming into or out of the game.
"It is tough. But if you are playing well, they don't boo you," Jeffries said after he was held scoreless for the third consecutive game. "They have a right. They don't think I am playing well. I don't think I'm playing well."
The Knicks again played with a shortened rotation, with Stephon Marbury sitting out the game with a tweaked knee and Eddy Curry departing in the fourth quarter with a strained left calf. But Jeffries still logged just five minutes and five seconds last night, including one second of garbage time in the second half after he committed two turnovers and two fouls early in the first quarter.
Jeffries similarly had earned just four minutes of playing time, a season low, in the Knicks' previous game, Tuesday in Miami.
"It's tough. I guess I've got to do more of what coach wants me to do," said Jeffries, who is averaging 4.9 points per game in the first year of a five-year, $30 million contract. "We talked about it. (Thomas) didn't feel like I did it early in the game and he went in a different direction....The biggest thing for me is to give a more consistent effort to get minutes on the court."
Lee, meanwhile, played more than 33 minutes off the bench and continued to show why he has become such a crowd favorite at MSG in his two NBA seasons. Lee notched his 22nd double-double of the season with 17 points and 14rebounds, including several dunks as the Knicks attempted to get back into the game in the fourth quarter.

Re: Fans Boo Jared Jefferies
dude is TRASH!!!! Can't make a lay-up; can't hit a wide open jump shot; doesnt rebound the ball that well even though he's usually in the mix. Why play him over Lee just cuz he is overpaid. Not efficient AT ALL!

Joe Smith can not play the 3 and does not have the potential for defensive play that Jefferies has. There is no point to making the trade as is (minus the draft pick which we wouldn't recieve) and would not benefit from it. I remember alot of Knick fans, myself included, lobbying to have Quentin Richardson traded for playing badly last season. All of a sudden, he's become something of a fan favorite. This time around, I'm going to be patient and allow Jefferies to have more than just 15 or 16 games to prove his value to this squad. Alot of people will have egg on their face come next season.
