Report: NBA considering penalizing players for flops.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2742835
Quote:
Flopping is already illegal in international play. Now, it might become illegal in the NBA, as well.
The NBA is studying how often flopping occurs and whether officials can tell the difference between flops and actual fouls, Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president for basketball operations, told Bloomberg News in a story published Thursday.
"They're really difficult to determine in real time. They're meant to fool an official," Jackson said. "Are we going to be wrong more times than not? It's tough, but we're looking at it."
Jackson said the NBA is considering whether to allow its officials to impose technical fouls for flopping, which FIBA, the governing body of international basketball, allows its referees to do. Other sports, such as hockey and soccer, also allow referees to penalize players who flop.
"We have so many more plays than you do in a football or soccer game and in a more intimate environment," he said.
Jackson didn't give a timetable for the league to make a decision.

Finally my prayers are being answered, and flopping may eventually be no more.

Hate the flop. Seems like the NBA used to assess a T many years ago. Unsportsmanlike conduct. I really am not sure but it is over damn due.

it sure is overdue , and after that they hopefully can take my other issue with the nba game ...moving screens , there is just no way that should be allowed to continue . it essentially makes every player a good picksetter because they no longer have to plant themselves to set pick and can move with the ballhandler. There just is no way Boris Diaw should be as effective setting picks as a guy like ben wallace , but he is because he can move with steve nash and almost block for him like he's a quarterback ...the refs no longer calling this has coincided with nash's 2 mvp's , and will he will have a 3rd in a row.
Steve nash is a very good player , but only 3 players have ever done that Bird, Wilt and Bill Russell...i dont think he is close to that kind of rarefied air ... but thats another rant for another day.

Poor Manu....that's it for the Spurs. Great news, play some defense and suck it up instead of trying to trick the refs.

Re: Report: NBA considering penalizing players for flops.
My question is just how does the league plan on determining what is a flop and what is not? If you could see the difference between the two then why the hell would ref's call a foul when they see a flop? It'll be interesting to see how the league impliments this rule if it does because it seems as they have knowingly allowed guys to cheat the game and play favorites.

ginobli and wade will be out of jobs if they call flops on the offensive end as well......
im tired of seeing wade get every call......I think it was a game recently heat vs lakers,....wade had like 10+ ft attempts at the half.....and kobe got to the line for his 1st FT's late in the 3rd or early in the 4th ( i might be off stat wise a bit)......its really ridiculous

Wade will only average 12-15 points per game if this is the case...
