Post Sharp-Shooting Nichols Will Be Hard To Cut - Frank Isola -

Sharp-Shooting Nichols Will Be Hard to Cut
Isiah Thomas will have several good problems on his hands come October when he tries to get his roster down to the mandatory 15 players. The Knicks currently have 17 players under contract including second-round pick Demetris Nichols, who can do something that very few players in the league can -- shoot the ball.

Nichols, a second round pick out of Syracuse after leading the Big East in scoring, has the chance to stick around because he can stick his jump shot with consistency. He’s got good form and exhibits a healthy dose of confidence.

In the Knicks 87-71 win over Kevin Durant and the Sonics, Nichols scored 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting. At 6-foot-8, Nichols is an inviting target when he spots up from behind the three-point line. He just needs to become a little more selfish as he passed up several open looks.

Nate Robinson led the Knicks with 19 points, first-round pick Wilson Chandler added 12 and Randolph Morris finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Free agent Brian Greene, out of Colorado State, also proved to be a good shooter, making four of his first five shots and scoring 14 points. Renaldo Balkman scored 10 points and did a good job making life miserable for Durant, the second overall pick in the draft.

You never want to get too crazy over a summer league game but the Sonics have a chance to be the worst team in the league next season. They traded Ray Allen and lost Rashard Lewis to free agency so without their two best players the Sonics figure to be right back in the lottery next season.

There will be a lot of growing pains for Jeff Green, the fifth player selected in the draft, as well as Durant. Last night, Durant scored 15 points but missed 14 of 17 shots. Body-wise, Durant reminds me of Jerry “Ice” Reynolds, but the kid needs to hit the weights and throw in a couple of protein shakes.

I want to keep him, let's get rid of some of the dead weight on this team. Dolan already shelled out over $40 million dollars in luxary tax, can't we just buy out Jerome James already. Then trade someone else for a draft pick? We need roster spots!

nichols is playing his way into a good euro contract right now.

its not a bad thing if he can get significantly more in europe than he can in the nba especially if the knicks help facilitate a deal...then the knicks make a qualifying offer which Nichols can reject but the then the knicks can keep his rights for a year and maybe get some value for the extra players on their roster .

i would much rather that then them likely cutting nate and or/dickau whom you have to consider are the 1st 2 on the chopping block.

with every1 else either they are being paid too much for their contract to just be eaten or Zeke like them too much .
