here is a list of the top 15 nba players from last year based on their appearance on the all nba teams...kiya you'll notice that none of these players have ever been traded for just ending contracts , in fact i think only garnett has been traded and an ending contract was involved , but i think we all know the t'wolves dont want theo ratliff , they wanted the other 4 guys and the draft picks that came with him.

the point i am trying make is that ending contracts are just an asset , but no ending deal is worth a player , ending deals are just a chance to start over which of course means you think you are better off with nothing than the guy you are dealing .
and generally if you are lucky enough to get your hands on a top 15 player , you keep him , you'll notice most of these guys have never been traded period.
you aren't going to get a guy who is going to set the nba on fire for an ending contract and most teams who want to start over are doing so because their present with that player isn't so hot ....so basically he is only so good anyway and not of much value to that franchise. anymore.
almost always when you get some1 who is really a great player you have to give up alot to get him(usually alot of guys who can play and still on theor rookie deals) the ending deals only help make the salaries match and let that team start over with the youth(or just a lesser paid star) 1 team just sent over.
another thing , teams want and need individual talents ...its up to the coach to make those talents play together , it wasn't so long ago the pistons were just a team with "losers" on them billups was a bust once upon a time , Rip hamilton was dealt to the pistons because MJ didn't think he was worth the money he wanted , Sheed was a flawed tech magnet who didn't want the ball when his team needed him most , and mcdyess was knowm as much for crippling the knicks as he was for once upon a time being a good player.
but they became a team and won alot of games and eventually a title ...without alot of individual talent a team usually sucks.
