Jerry Colangelo Interested In Saving The Knicks?
Quote:
Tony Ronzone, the Pistons' director of basketball operations and chief international scout, knows a guy who could rescue the New York Knicks .
"Jerry Colangelo," Ronzone said.
Colangelo, who built the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks into championship-caliber franchises, is presently building Team USA back to gold medal status. Ronzone was hired by Colangelo as an assistant coach and scout for the Tournament of Americas championship last summer.
"I think that (cleaning up the mess that is the Knicks) is the kind of challenge Jerry loves," Ronzone said.
"Colangelo has told friends that he would welcome the chance to come to the Garden, even more than going home to Chicago," a report in the New York Daily News said. "Colangelo thinks that if he can turn around the laughingstock Knicks and build them into a championship team, it would be his crowning achievement."

At this point I'll take Jerry's grandkids to run the Knicks just as long as Isiah is gone!

At this point I'd settle for Jerry's Kids.

Isn't Jerry about 274 1/2 years old?
I don't know if he would have the energy needed - and doubt that the Dolans would cede to him the necessary power to accomplish the task.

Jump at it
This is a golden opportunity if it's for real. That guy builds winners. Dolan should put him on speed dial.

Unfortunately, not champions. Neither does Donnie Walsh but he has shown the ability of building contenders and more done so multiple times. Him being a New Yorker certainly doesn't hurt and from what I hear, Walsh is a league favorite which doesn't hurt when it comes to making deals.

Re: Jerry Colangelo Interested In Saving The Knicks?
This would be great for the Knicks. The Knicks could easily turn out like the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors had a ******* as GM (Rob Babcock) and Bryan Colangelo wanted a challange and came to Toronto. In what...2 years or so he has turned the horrible Raptor team that he started off with, into a team filled with depth and one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA today. The Knicks can only hope his Bryan's father can do the same.

Understandable. The Pacers with Reggie Miller (and yes Rik Smiths) certainly were contenders every year during the late 1990's and actually faired as one of the best teams against the dynasty Lakers in the Finals. The Pacers headed by Jermaine O'neal (and Reggie Miller) certainly were contenders but not after taht Palace brawl which destroyed them. I just personally believe Walsh is a better all-around GM because he builds more complete teams. In addition to that, I feel like most of the deals he makes he swindles people with. Have you ever seen any team without any real assets rebuild as quickly as they did in 2000? Not to mention that they had the team winning in no team when the major contributors were either high school kids or rookies.
