Isiah: Eddie May Never Be A Good Defender

Quote:
EDDY Curry Super star, Isiah Thomas's imaginary friend, does not exist. The Knicks boss finally conceded this Friday in Chicago in an official announcement made in his center's hometown.

"He may never be a great defender or rebounder," said Thomas. "But he's a great scorer and we're going to use that."

One-third of a franchise center is better than the zero the Knicks have been getting since Zach Randolph's summer arrival. Rock bottom was hit Friday when Curry, who had failed to score in double figures six of his last nine games, had nada in 13 minutes.
.....Isiah just figured that out?

And yet I'm sure Isiah will still insist that Curry was somehow worth two 1sts...

Re: Isiah: Eddie May No

How could sooooooo many fans see the outcome of this, yet Isiah had no clue? It's not just the Curry trade, it's nearly everything. Is he truly that oblivious to reality?

I watched almost all of Eddy's first four years. It was apparent that Eddy had below average court sense and no sustainable inner drive. However he seemed to be improving his awareness of what he was supposed to do on defense ( although mostly he would be in position too late). Occasionally he would go through stretches of games where he was aggressive on both ends but alas that is just not his nature. I can't blame Isiah for thinking he could light a fire under Eddy. Curry has such awesome low post offensive skills that if he could ever consistently be a below average rebounder and defender, he would be an all-star.

After 7 years it is apparent that all Eddy can and will do is on the offensive end. When Eddy was most valuable with the Bulls in his last year, Skiles would force the Bulls to keep Eddy very active on offense so you get the most out of Eddy. Eddy would not be playing late in the 4th quarter because stops are important. So now that Isiah has given up making Eddy something he is not, he should force the Knicks to run their offense through Edddy when he is on the court and only play him 25-30 minutes. Tell Eddy he must score or he will sit. The most important part of coaching is to put players in the best situations for them. Eddy will always be out of shape. He will never be basketball smart. But he can always be a high per minute played low post scorer. That is all Eddy really wants as his 7 year career shows. Don't ever listen to what Eddy says, just watch what he does.

Featuring Curry is a bad idea, imo

The man just doesn't have what it takes. If you look at the net gain with him on the floor (positives minus the negatives) it doesn't seem worth it to me. At his best he is a 23/7/.5/.5 guy. Subtract out the TOs.....the lack of boards...the lack of passing that causes the offense to get out of rhythm...and the absolute lack of defense...and what is the net gain? I think where he hurts the team the most is in the non-measurables, like being an offense staller, or a very poor help defender. There have been many players that have really good offensive ability but are just better suited for situational play. Eddie would be great at that off the bench....just like several others.
