Line-Up Changes Loom, Curry and Randolph May Be Bench-Bound

Quote:
Thomas said he wanted to infuse "energy and intense guys in our lineup" for Wednesday's game at Orlando.
Lately, Curry and Randolph haven't fit into either category.
"We have to find ... a group that wants to consistently compete for 48 minutes," Thomas said after the last-place Knicks fell to 8-19.
Randolph didn't question any moves Thomas may make. He and Curry were subbed for David Lee and Malik Rose early in the second half.
"Sometimes change is good," said Curry, who scored eight points and grabbed just one rebound - a season low - all in the first half. "For some reason we're just not clicking right now and that second unit is getting us back in games, so (making changes are) obviously something we have to do."
Both Curry and Randolph have started every game they've suited up for this season. (Randolph missed three games when his grandmother died in November and Curry missed a game earlier this month with a sprained ankle.)
Randolph said he would welcome any move Thomas made "to help the team win," but Curry said it would be "a rough adjustment" to be a reserve. Curry has started 176 of 180 games as a Knick.

Re: Line-Up Changes Loom, Curry and Randolph May Be Bench-Bound

at this point i'd go with a lee and balkman in the starting lineup ...if energy is needed go with the 2 most energetic players on the roster and use Zach and nate for an offensive punch off the bench ..., the only reason to keep zach and eddy starting right now would be to keep up trade value for a trade, it is time to coach to win games, hurt feeling be damned.

Far more in depth article from the Times. They make it sound like Curry is going to take the brunt of the blame. It's pretty obvious that their current lineup is dysfunctional...but you have to give Isiah most of the blame. He's been all over the place this year. He's the one who has let the problems fester and he's the one who put this team together without giving it any semblance of an identity.

Re: Line-Up Changes Loom, Curry and Randolph May Be Bench-Bound

The sad thing is there are no good options, really, because all of these players have major holes in their game. Lee is the closest thing to a "complete" player the Knicks have, but even he has major flaws. Balkman just plain stinks on offense. Ditto for Jeffries. That's why this team was built poorly, too many specialists.

Re: Line-Up Changes Loom, Curry and Randolph May Be Bench-Bound

What we NEED?

Lets do our homework:
Q.Richardson is not a SG! if he were the Clippers & Suns would've kept him.
Crawford is not a PG! if he was the Bulls would not have benched him for two weeks untill he excepted the SG-position.
PG-Crawford and SG-Q.Richardson provided the Knicks with a 23-59 season for Coach Charlie Brown.
Jared Jefferies is a Man to Man defender you bring off the bench mainly in the second half for game strategy.
So lets just drop some of the worst part of these players game at that.
Lets build on the Future with what we got in our younger players (Curry, Zach, Crawford, and Marbury are individual scoring players).

David Lee & N8 Robinson bring alot of other things to the table in their performance to make up for their deficiency on Man to Man defense, plus they play great team defense together, they lead alot of comebacks for this team to say they dont play defense.
That is just a few of the reason why both these Players should be Starters if given the chance (Even Coach Charlie Brown knew this, if Isiah was FIRED and Charlie Brown would've coached in his second season I'm sure Lee & Nate would've became his STARTERS).
Both players performance would move up a notch to the next level if the Knicks had a Dominate Center to play alongside of them (they both showed that playing alongside of C/PF-Dale Davis, and C-Jackie Butler).
Lets hope the Knicks coaching Staff is conditioning 6.11 Randolph Morris for this task in every Practice this season (the guy cant buy any playingtime).

Developing 6.7 Balkman & 6.8 Chandler Raw talent & Skillz to play alongside of each other as a rebounding SF/SG tandem supposed to be a priority on the Knicks top agenda at defending the passing lane when you draft two first rounder (SF) back to back (and your team already have two veteran SF).
Balkman & Chandler are the essential Future of this Knick Team and their overall talent need to be built around so they could add scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and a energy leadership to their teammates. Their NBA Talents & Skillz supposed to get better each season with the long coaching staff the Knicks have.
Chandler is a scorer that should be in the offensive playbook so he could learn how to score under pressure in the NBA his first season.
Balkman is player that plays well without the ball and should be taught how to slash to the hoop in a Karl Malone or Barkley style in his second season.
Developing these two SF players to play alongside of N8 & Lee would be the Start of a Future 4-UNIT team inwhich you could add either position player as the 5th-Man to this young 4-Man Unit and have success, PG-Marbury, or SG-Crawford, or PF-Zach, or C-Curry, or PG-Collins, or even SG-Jones.

lets do our homework .

on the suns joe johnson and Qrich flipp-flopped at the 2/3 spots depending on matchups , both up to that point were primarily 2 guards with the size to play the 3. the suns traded Q for cap flexibility and the fact they wanted a more accurate 3 point shooter (which they got in raja bell.)

jamal crawford was never benched for not accepting the sg position in any season of his career , when he was installed at the 2 in chicago he initially played pretty well...it wasn't a demotion, he became the team's leading scorer at the 2.

jamal crawford only became the knicks point guard after marbury went down with injury in late march by then the horrid Larry Brown led season was long since a certainty that it was in the crapper, Q wasn't even playing by then already out for the year.

jared jeffires has been a man to man defender other coaches have felt was good enough to start not just Thomas , maybe its ok if you have the right parts around him.

nate cant/wont play defense at his size without that intensity on D he will never be more than a bench player , he has energy and he hustles .

its ironic that you found fault with JC playing pg at the end of the Brown season , if nate could play pg JC could have stayed at the 2 where brown apparently preferred him but he is to about himself to be trusted, if anything your problems with JC playing the pg at the conclusion of the 2003-04 season should at least be in part given to nate...due to his flaws he ended that season as a 5 '8 2 guard.

dale davis has never been a knick.

jackie butler is 23 or 24 and is employed by no nba teams right now because of his flaws, please dont use him in the same sentence as a dominant center.

balkman has taken a step back in his development and chandler isn't ready...neither is morris btw but hopefully they will be soon...the coaches see these guys everyday in practice but they dont get in the games ....at some point you have to put some blame on the players for not gaining the trust of the coaching staff.
