"You can't help but think about it," center Eddy Curry said of Thomas' possible firing if the team doesn't turn it around. "We're trying to win games. But I think it's definitely in the back of some people's minds."
The Knicks put a fitting ending to the year at Madison Square Garden, falling to 8-21 in another uninspired game.
Thomas tried yet another new lineup that failed, Stephon Marbury watched from the sideline in street clothes, and the Knicks made the dismal Bulls look like world-beaters.
Though Curry said the players are wondering about Thomas' future, they don't want to see him fired. "We're really trying and we hope our owner knows that we're trying," said Curry, who came off the bench for the first time since Dec. 28, 2005 in Orlando. "We don't believe that it's (Thomas') fault that we're losing like this. We just, for whatever reason, can't run that corner."

How quickly would his line change when Isiah is fired, and no longer in a position to retaliate against him? I'm afraid I just don't believe Curry really feels this way.

Wait, you believe that Curry, lazy Eddy Curry, really wants Zeke replaced by a real coach that would make him work hard?
Oh, no. Heaven forfend! But I don't think that he really doesn't think it's Isiah's fault either.
When has anyone heard an original thought by Eddy ?? The real Eddy only comes out when he is doing his first love ... playing video games. It's not his fault that his basketball talent has put him in front of people before he is mentally ready. Eddy is just a real nice kid at heart and he probably can stay that way if he wants to. I think he has done an admirable job learning the right cliches.
He won't be around when the team is turned around. He's one of the guys who will need to go in order to bring in more complete players.
Pretty much...

i always wonder why people believe other teams are just falling over themselves to trade complete players for incomplete players .
stars for role players ...
good players for scrubs...and so on and so on.
and if that were to happen there will always be a catch like he is crazy (artest), beats his wife(kidd),etc...there will be a reason his team wants to deal him for what they are getting.
in truth with rare exceptions like the ones mentioned above you get what you give , and the knicks have aquired a bunch of younger guys than what they had and they are expected to work on their incomplete games and become more complete...but its always a crapshoot when you have to rely on players becoming more than what they historically have been.
for the defenders it means learn how to score , for the scorers it means learn how to defend ...and once they do it , then to do it consistently and cohesively to form a winning team.

this is the team inherited by zeke ...how many 2 way players are there , how many complete games can you count out of 15...i dont see too many...but i see at least 3 guys who were getting max money some others making the MLE or better some lotto picks or near lotto selctions who were still young and that team was 10-18 when zeke took over.

^Still, the bad outweighs the good. I always thought Isiah made a good move by getting Marbury, and giving this team a name to go to. An identity. Then he overdid it and turned crap, getting guys like James and Francis- and pretty much every other front office move.

What you forgot to mention is that every NBA G.M. would've luv to get a four year contract to turn Laydumb team around that season. Especially with an Owner that says spending more money is no object.
Another thing that should've been mention was all the first season players on that roster, and the expiring contracts that season and the season to follow.
houston
van horn (first season)
kurt thomas (expiring contract)
sweetney (Rookie)
vranes (Rookie)
eisley
ward (expiring contract)
f. williams (Rookie next season expiring)
mcdyess (first season & expiring contract)
shandon anderson
mutumbo (first season 2yr contract)
doleac (first season expiring contract)
harrington
trybanski (expiring contract)
weatherspoon (next season expiring)
It bothers me everytime I used to read in the news papers that Isiah inherited a BUM Roster from Laydumb, how in the heck is getting FIVE expiring contract players in one season, and three expiring contracts the next season bad? Plus the Knicks adding two new rebounders to the roster in late November 2003 (Mutombo & Mcdyess) who both added great defense when they started blending in the rotation well in December.
The last 10 games in December 2003 the Knicks WON 7 out of the 10, finding a great defensive rotation that worked well, getting some steady scoring from Mcdyess, K-Thomas, KVH, Houston, Anderson, and Ward each game. It wasn't much but the Team started playing above .500 B-Ball at the end of December before Isiah was hired and shook things up in January.
Its just that for every good thing he did, he followed it up with a bad move. Getting the 3 firsts in '05? Good move. The Curry deal? Bad move. Trading for Francis? Bad move. Trading away Frye? Bad move. Passing on Bynum? Bad move. What we have is crap being sold to us as caviar. Again...look at what could have been. Bynum, Lee, Ariza, Nate, JC, Noah, Brandon Roy(or Aldridge), plus the '08 pick. Get Beaslsey or Rose and that team is a legitimate contender in 2 years, provided a good coach is acquired. Its not like he couldn't have done it....he just didn't.
Ron Artest was the "MAN" for the "Curry Factor", not Zach Randolph.
C-Curry
PF-Lee
SF-Artest
Ron Artest is a court LEADER in practice and in a game, he would have also improved Crawford & Marbury decision making.
This season "Curry Factor" is all Isiah Thomas fault for not Starting David Lee alongside of Curry at the start of the 2007-8 season, plus not demanding that Curry, Zach, Lee, James, and Malik Rose all participate in Mark Aquire Bigman Camp in July & August.
There was no reason why Zach, Balkman, Collins, and Nate could'nt have been the Fire-Power off the Bench at the start of this season to give this Knick-Team a strong depth chart.
David Lee was supposed to be assigned to helping improve Eddy Curry Team-Play on both sides of the court at the start of this 2007-8 season.
Starting Players because of their High Contract is something all G.M's. would like to do, but a Wise Coach looks for the best co-existing players to START & FINISH the game for success.
