Tefair: I'd Love NY Gig
Quote:
Sebastian Telfair as the Knick point guard next year? It's not so farfetched.
Telfair, a free agent July 1, harbored the same dreams as his older cousin Stephon Marbury growing up in Brooklyn - to become the Knick point guard.
With his rookie contract expiring, Telfair will be free for the first time in his NBA career.
Telfair, who's started 51 games this season but missed last night's game with an ankle sprain, has not lived up to the New York mega-hype. But he's also just 22 years old, been traded twice, had a couple of run-ins with the law and been plagued by nagging injuries.
"I'm sure that would be great," Telfair said. "Me being from New York, watching the Knicks the majority of my life. I think it would be definitely exciting.
"A lot of players, even players not from New York, playing in Madison Square Garden every night, it's a pretty significant thing. If I got the opportunity, I would definitely enjoy it."
Telfair, involved in the blockbuster that sent Kevin Garnett to the Celtics, always has been profiled as much more of a playmaker than Marbury, the better scorer.
Current Knick president/coach Isiah Thomas believes the club desperately needs a playmaking point guard.
Of course, nobody knows who will be in charge of personnel on July 1, and Thomas' potential successor could be wary since one Coney Island point-guard star failed to lift the Knicks.
"It's possible," Telfair said when asked if a New York-born point guard could handle the responsibility of guiding the Knicks.
Marbury has faced insurmountable pressure as a Knick, been made the scapegoat by some fans and Thomas. Telfair said he'd be able to deal with it.
"There's pressure anywhere in the NBA," Telfair said. "It's the best basketball players in the world. I don't think it would be any more pressure for me."
Ironically, Telfair knows Thomas through Marbury when Marbury and Thomas were tight. With Marbury and Thomas on the outs, Telfair still wouldn't say anything bad about the Knicks' lame-duck leader. Telfair and Marbury stay in touch but don't seem particularly close.
'Me being a point guard and playing in this league, I have a lot of respect for Him [Thomas]," said Telfair, averaging 9.3 points and 5.9 assists for the rebuilding Wolves.
"He's one of the greatest-ever point guards to play this game. So I have utmost respect for him."
Marbury likely would say differently now. Marbury wants to stay aboard, but realizes it's a long shot if Thomas is around. Earlier this month, Marbury, who is not traveling with the club as he rehabs from ankle surgery, said emphatically earlier this month he does not want to be traded. A summer buyout is the likeliest scenario.

Gordon and Deng's strategy during contract negotiations should consist only of a picture of Kirk Hinrich and repeated utterances of the following: "C'mon, man! The ****!?!?" Paxon would crack.
So, they're gonna miss the playoffs WITH Iverson? Listen, people, it's time you reevaluate just how good Iverson is and what he brings to a team.

Couldn't have said it better myself. He'd have to sign a contract for less than a million bucks, because otherwise, he's just not worth it.

Re: Tefair: I'd Love NY Gig
i think the knicks desperately need to stay away from things like this. i think one of our colour commentators here in toronto (nyc native, jack armstrong) said it best, "the knicks always try to win the press conference." i totally agree with that and while i don't know if it's the only reason they're in the position they are, it's certainly a factor.
signing players like telfair would be another one of those moves. the knicks have been doing a remarkable job, imo, of finding individual talents who don't seem to fit anywhere. they can't keep doing that and expect to find their way out of the hole. at least try another strategy. forget the fact that you're the knicks and try to do what everyone else does: build a basketball team. ignore the naysayers along the way because i'm sure there will be many- but no more than there already are.
my two cents, anyway.
peace

I can't believe there's a player the Knicks are too good for, but here's one.

You know who wants to play for the Knicks these days? Guys who could care less about winning.

If we go to an uptempo system ala the Suns he would be a good fit here. he is an uptempo guard, not a half-court one.

So is Stephon, but that didn't work out to well. I think Telfair would be good though for us if he does what he did at Lincoln for us. Good heady penetrator and passer who competes on both sides of the floor. At the worst, a solid backup PG. I'd take him.

how is robinson a circus act? honestly, if you said that maybe a year ago it would make sense. ever since thise season started robinson's revamped his game and he's capitalized on the things he's good and made the most of his opportunities.
