Is The Pressure On Walsh In NY? Not Exactly

Quote:
Donnie Walsh just landed the best gig in sports.

Nothing could top the duties of spending another man's money without having to produce results, which is the exact job description of president of the New York Knicks. As a sports fan you wouldn't want James Dolan to own your team. But as head honcho of basketball operations, you'd want him to be your boss.
The hiring of Walsh, which is the first public acknowledgment from Dolan that maybe this Isiah thing isn't working out, didn't bring with it a sweeping mandate for change. Among Walsh's initial comments was a call for patience, an end to the quick-fix moves that have backfired the past few years. In other words, an indication that the best action for now is no action.

"You've got to resist the idea of giving longer-term contracts in order to protect the flexibility down the road," Walsh said.

The current Knicks have the benefit of playing in this watered-down version of the Eastern Conference. And fortunately for them, the past two players to lead their teams out of the East -- LeBron James and Dwyane Wade -- both hit free agency in 2010. Until then, these Knicks will still be the Knicks, only without the constant attention focused on Thomas' job status. There's no way the team can get any worse under Walsh, so anyone who has paid attention to the way Dolan has operated knows Walsh won't be shown an early exit.

New York is supposed to be the city that demands the most, that applies the most pressure. But that's where you'll find the most job security in sports.

Money for nothing.

Re: Is The Pressure On Walsh In NY? Not Exactly

the simple truth of the matter is , its not true people said the same thing about thomas at 1st , they were just happy to be rid of layden they were even happy to have marbury, but after a year or so people want results and the bloom will be off the rose so to speak .....

the only way that changes really is if the media is so greateful about donnie changing the mesia policy they only say good things ...which is unlikely unless the knicks are winning big soon....just too many negative reporters which is why dolan put the policy in place when he did.
