Another Coaching Candidate
Quote:
If Donnie Walsh wants to interview Boston Celtics associate head coach Tom Thibodeau for the Knicks' coaching position, he might have to wait until after the NBA Finals.
While Mark Jackson remains the favorite to succeed Isiah Thomas, Walsh definitely has interest in Thibodeau, an 18-year veteran and former top aide to Jeff Van Gundy in New York and Houston. According to a person close to the Knicks' president, Thibodeau is ranked No.1 among NBA assistant coaches by Walsh.
Although it's not great timing, Doc Rivers has told associates that he would be open to allowing Thibodeau to interview during a day off in the Celtics' playoff run.

I don't like this hiring idea at all either.

Re: Another Coaching Candidate
I actually like Thibodeau over Mark Jackson.

Re: Another Coaching Candidate
The Knicks should hire Avery Johnson TODAY!
the day after he was Fired.
Just to prove Cuban made a BIG mistake trading young Devin Harris for an old Jason Kidd in the uptempo speed of the Western Conference.
I'm hoping Larry Brown call up Hanner & Herb Williams to come help him out with the Bobcats.
Then maybe we could hire both Avery Johnson and Mark Jackson as his assistant.
I dont want Toronto Mitchell, or Bum Karl, or Mike D., or Herb Williams, or defensive minded only Thibodeau and JVG. If Walsh would have hired Bum Skiles, I would have started Bashing on him that same day, the same way I did to Isiah when he brang Marbury to the Knicks.

They are firing coaches left and right, Avery isn't bad.

Re: Another Coaching Candidate
carlisle , johnson herb williams, mark jackson, that asst. on the celts ...alot of choices ...but really if the knicks are serious about changing their ways as an org. there is really only 1 choice .
herb williams , they promised him the job years ago , the team is in a transitional period , why not let him run with it and see if he has anything to offer as a HC ?
its not like the team is on the verge of a title and need a the phil Jax right now to make a differnce.

Agreed. Him or D'Antoni. The other choices just kind of wreak.

Re: Another Coaching Candidate
i want jax PERIOD. Who else would be better? He's a no non-sense type of guy, he embodies New York, he knows the city and how it works. I'm also sure the players would give him a lot of respect and he would do well working with our pg woes.

My thoughts exactly!!!
We owe Herb his due, it would be in good taste, and its not like were gonna win a title in the next 2-3 years so the coach really isnt going to matter anyway.

Re: Another Coaching Candidate
Give me them in this order.
1. Avery Johnson
2. Mark Jackson
3. Mike D'Antoni
I think D'Antoni would get us in the playoffs the fastest, but I want to see a better Knicks team defensively, like we had in the days of Oakley and Ewing.
