Grizzlies Memphis Balks At David Lee's 60 Million Dollar Price Tag

Quote:
An executive with knowledge of David Lee's trade talks with the Memphis Grizzlies tells 1050 ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand that Lee's agent asked for $60 million over five years. Memphis was prepared to offer Lee $40 million over five years. But when they heard the initial asking price, they decided to trade instead for ex-Knick Zach Randolph. Lee's agent, Mark Bartelstein, could not immediately be reached for comment.

After the trade, the Grizzlies no longer have the ability to offer a first-year salary above the mid-level exception. The only teams now that can offer more than the mid-level exception are the Portland Trail Blazers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Toronto Star reports the Raptors are trying to obtain Lee. Sources couldn't say whether it would be a straight offer or a sign-and-trade scenario.

I don't know how they're going to find enough basketballs for those players on the court...

They ultimately got something for nothing and that's the bottom line. Randolph is a 20-10 player that scores in the post; a new dimension they now have coming from a guy that is just 27 years old. If anything, they should move Rudy Gay in exchange for players to fill out the rest of their roster.

That's what a lot of people said when the Knicks got Randolph. It's also what a lot of people said when the Knicks decided to trade him for Tim Thomas and a disabled Mobley.... You get the picture. By this time next year Memphis will be lucky to trade him for a wounded rabbit and a carrot stick, and that trade would actually be a win for Memphis because of salary cap reasons.

And if the Knicks didn't have such a good chance of jumping starting this team, he would still be here. If the Clippers didn't draft Blake Griffin, he would still be there. The circumstances of teams change and effect's a players value to a team all the time. That is what happened at Randolph's two previous teams. One thing is for sure and that is Memphis is not taking a gamble here. They have him under contract for just two years and after this year becomes a huge asset to contenders. This is something of a power move for a team like the Grizzlies.

Two points, Zbo owed 33mill over 2 years. The 17 mill expiring will come in handy. Thats better than playing a lesser player 60 mill over 5 years.

Second point, Lee isn't a low post scorer. Grizz need a low post option.

knicks traded randolph for the 2010 plan. randolph > lee. both play no defense, but at least randolph has a more developed offensive game, and he rebounds just as well.

Knicks fans, can you imagine what Jennings is going to do to you? He’s gonna be slicing through that defense like V for Vendetta. Then, after the game, he’s gonna slice through security and find Donnie Walsh and stab him in the damn heart.

I guess Kobe feels like averaging 30 again. At this point, he’s like Keanu at the end of the first Matrix. He became who he was supposed to be and now he’s just gonna do whatever he wants.

Whats Zach Randolph biggest problem? alot of Knick-Fans are clueless.
Zach has an attitude if he is not the number one go to guy.
That is why I wanted Zach to come off the bench his first season with the Knicks to get his 20-10 stat and win the 6th man award.
The Knicks best lineup would've been their bench Nate, Tazman, and Zach.

Only a fool would've thought that Zach approved of the trade to the 2-12 Clippers after being told by the new Knick President "everyone will be starting out with a clean slate". Everybody and their dog knew how close friends Walsh and Dunleavy were.
The Clippers team turned against President Dunleavy a year before Zach was traded. That is why Sam Cassell took a very low buyout to join the Celtics.

I have never been a Zach fan but I know that Rasheed Wallace taught him well his rookie season.
Will Zach be explosive on the Grizz? HELL YEAH! he have two defensive centers (Galo & Thabeet) that dont look to score other than their offensive rebound. All PG-Conley, SG-Mayo, and SF-Gay, need is a 20-10 PF-Zach to perform at a .500 record.
Zach give less than hell what he is traded for with a guaranteed $33M the next two seasons. He is happy as a rat in a cheese factory that he was traded from the NBA worst Franchise ever.
