Lack of Toughness?
Is anyone else worried about the Knicks' frightening lack of toughness? If Thomas is traded I just feel like we would lose that fire that NY hoops is all about. It doesn't matter how many good shooters we have, the shots have to be available to be made. Plus how do we expect to stop anyone with that pitiful defense. Layden... please don't get rid of KT!

Yessir, thats about it. But if we can package KT up and get a talented player in exchange I would do it in a heartbeat.

i have come to the realization that the knicks we remember from pre2k are just that, a memory. ever since ewing was traded, we pretty much evolved into this mediocre team. camby then left taking some of the emotion and fire with him and with the trade of spree, the heart left as well. thomas is reminiscent of that era but we really wasn't a factor back then. and his poor judgement on the court (fouls) kind of nullifies his grit.
we are a team of h20 and kvh right now. h20 is real good, but his lack of defense was shielded by spree. now with spree gone and another "soft" player in kvh, h20's defense will truly be exposed. i'm actually starting to think we're going to see a dip in production from h20 just for the fact he has to now guard the other team's SG. we really don't have an identity as a team just like we don't have an idenitity at coach as well.
what i'm concentrating my focus on this season is to watch the development of frank williams, sweets, and lampe. forget those "DE-FENSE" chants guys, those days are long gone.

I'll second that!!! It would be interesting though to see if Layden can make anymore moves (though I'm actually scared he may make more moves and they would be for the worse, just like every move he's made to date!!!)

Nice post. Yes we can forget about oppossing players coming down the lane only to be knocked n their fannys by guys like Mase, Xavier Mcdaniel, oakley, or Bonner. We are a finesse team now, and I too will be focusing on the development of the youngans. Sweetney may be able to play the role of tough guy that we need, he certainly has the Oaklley type bulk.

yeah
Yup, I guess I'm still having trouble admitting that the Knicks are no longer a defensive force. That's the only way I see it though. I mean that toughness and emotion is what is known as the NY brand of basketball.
At least we got some young new faces to watch this year, though.
God... that's what I've been saying about the Mets this whole season!! The vicious cycle just repeats itself!!

KT is a Mental Case. I wouldn't confuse that with toughness. He's more worried about giving Screwfaces to the refs than carring on the tradition of Oakley,Mase. and the X man. If he were our tough guy, some many NBA players wouldn't have thought the middle of our defense was an E-Z Pass Lane. As far as Sweetney is concerned, it's way too early to tell if he will be the guy to put people on their backs or not. I personally don't see that in him but maybe he'll develop it. Being tough is a mind set. We won't lay down, we won't let the other team to keep throwing the ball down our throat and all we do is just go and check the ball out. The toughest guy on our team is Charlie Ward. Forget all that Christian stuff he talks about, Charlie is not above giving the opposing team the business on the down low. But having said what I just said (even now I'm thinking 'Do I know what I'm saying here?') Toughness??? Hmmm...Chaney and Layden doesn't want a tough team. I don't know what team we have right now, but I'm going to stand behind my Rookies.

Mase isn't Mental...Mase is from South Jamaica...Mase is PURE THUG. Mase is all about standing on the street corner and getting you to give up them pockets...that's Mase, that's where Mase is from, and that is how Mase carried it on the court. Mase had all of South Jamaica, and the dirty parts of Brooklyn (Bed-Stuy, East New York, Brownsville, etc.) on MSG's floor. He had tough and Intimidation with him. It also didn't hurt to have a couple of other bad boys with you either...

Maybe the Knicks will get the chance to get a great "tough" player through the draft. Don't give up on your clubs great tradition Knicks!

If they compare him to Dirk, he will not play in the post much, nor could I see him display much toughness.
