I still can't help but think that we'll see Shawn Bradley end up in a Knicks uniform, and I still think that Kurt Thomas will end up being involved. Thomas is seemingly a more valuable commodity than Bradley, so I suspect that Dallas will have to bail New York out on Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley, and/or Clarence Weatherspoon in order to get the deal done.
Here's an idea: Shawn Bradley, Tariq Abdul-Wahad (four years remaining), and Chris Mills (expiring contract) for Kurt Thomas, Howard Eisley (four years remaining), and Clarence Weatherspoon (three years remaining).
The Knicks get a center and replace two lousy longterm contracts (Eisley and Weatherspoon) with just one lousy longterm contract (Abdul-Wahad). New York can then either a) trade one or more of their multiple large expiring contracts (add Mills to a list that includes McDyess, Ward, and Travis Knight) for some good but overpaid players prior to the February trade deadline OR b) let these guys all walk next summer, thereby drastically reducing payroll.
The Mavs add a much-needed banger (Thomas) and a suddenly-necessary backup PG (Eisley), all they are giving up is Bradley here.
Let's say New York does this deal and refuses to trade any of their expiring contracts, thereby drastically reducing their 2004-05 payroll. Here, then, are the 2004-05 Knicks:
Starting lineup
PG Milos Vujanic (24 mpg)
SG Allan Houston (40 mpg)
SF Keith Van Horn (40 mpg)
PF Michael Sweetney (32 mpg)
C Shawn Bradley (32 mpg)
Key reserves: Frank Williams (24 mpg), Shandon Anderson (16 mpg), Othella Harrington (16 mpg), Maciej Lampe (16 mpg)
End of the bench (no PT): Tariq Abdul-Wahad, Michael Doleac, 2004 first round pick
Stashed on the IR: Slavko Vranes

Hmm...if the Knicks need a giant center, then I'm sure the Sonics would gladly trade Jerome James (7'1" 290lbs) to the Knicks for one of those expiring contracts. I'm pretty sure Travis Knight would do the trick...

you'd have to replace mills with someone else. Mills is untouchable (for 1 month or was it 3 i think) because he just got traded to dallas (or will be on monday). Cant trade him straight away this trade would have had to be done during the regular season.

If i am NY, i would want Raef instead.....
Hmmm...
What id dallas did these 2 trades...
Raef, Najera for Antonio Davis
Bradley, Wahad, Mills for Kurt Thomas, Weatherspoon, Eisley
They would be insanley talented
PG-S.Nash(34mpg)/H.Eisley(14mpg)
SG-M.Finley(36mpg)/J.Howard(12mpg)
SF-A.Jamison(35mpg)/D.Nowiskie(13mpg)
PF-D.Nowiskie(23mpg)/D.Fortson(20mpg)/K.Thomas(5mpg)
C-A.Davis(30mpg)/K.Thomas(18mpg)
With Weatherspoon on IR
Man, that team looks awesome

That's right, he'd either have to quickly get included in a three-way OR the Sonics would have to wait until he's eligible to be traded again, which is either two or three months (somebody knows the answer, help a brother out). In any event, I have a hard time seeing Mills finishing the season in a Mavs uniform, they'll end up trading that guy for somebody who can actually contribute for them.
Everybody knows that neither Danny Fortson nor Chris Mills will ever touch the floor for Big D, right? Fortson is buried on the depth chart behind Dirk, LaFrentz, Bradley, and Najera. I suppose Fortson will play when one of these four dudes are injured, but that's it. And Mills is buried behind Michael Finley and Josh Howard. And don't forget that Big D has not touched either their MLE or their veteran's exception. How great would it be for Cuban to give REGGIE MILLER his entire MLE? Think he might be willing to take a few huge shots during fourth quarters of key playoff games? Maybe?
And Scinos, I think you underrate James' value in this league, there are enough teams desperate for big bodies out there, somebody will give you more than Travis Knight for the guy. What you WANT to happen is to package a Potapenko or, preferably, a Booth with James. And you probably want to insist on Radmanovic not being included in such a package, although you may have to give away Radmanovic in order to convince somebody to bail you out on Booth (and it might just be worth it). Quick question: Did a single person on the planet ever think Calvin Booth was going to live up to that contract when it was signed? Dear lord!
Don't forget that the Knicks might not just want ONE center, they'd probably like to have TWO. Here's a variation on a trade that I suggested a while back: Jerome James, Calvin Booth, and Joe Forte for Clarence Weatherspoon, Michael Doleac, and Travis Knight. Knight's contract expires at the end of the season, and Weatherspoon's acquisition allows Seattle to let Reggie Evans walk, which allows them to concentrate on re-signing Predrag Drobnjak rather than on BOTH Drobnjak and Evans. New York clearly has no use for Spoon at this point, and his contract is nearly as bad as Booth's (lasts for just as long but for slightly less money), but he'd be decent in Seattle's smallball lineup, he would at least PLAY, unlike Booth!
This requires us to adjust the trade with Dallas. Let's substitute Shandon Anderson for Spoon, which makes it: Shawn Bradley, Tariq Abdul-Wahad (four years remaining), Chris Mills (expiring contract), and Antoine Rigadeau (filler) for Kurt Thomas, Howard Eisley (four years remaining), and Shandon Anderson (four years remaining). Now let's look at the 2004-05 Knicks:
Starting lineup
PG Milos Vujanic (24 mpg)
SG Allan Houston (40 mpg)
SF Keith Van Horn (32 mpg)
PF Michael Sweetney (32 mpg)
C Shawn Bradley (24 mpg)
Key reserves: Jerome James (24 mpg), Frank Williams (24 mpg), Othella Harrington (16 mpg), Maciej Lampe (16 mpg), Tariq Abdul-Wahad (8 mpg)
End of the bench (no PT): 2004 first round pick, Joe Forte
Stashed on the IR: Slavko Vranes, Calvin Booth

Go to: http://www.members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#84
Quote: "In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances: For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the player is being traded in combination with other players. However, the team is free to trade the player by himself (not packaged with other players) immediately."
So Mills is eligible to be traded starting on October 18, midway through training camp. I'd look for Big D to field offers from now until shortly before then, and to pull the trigger on a deal on October 18 (or shortly thereafter). Big D is going for broke, fellas, they'll trade the worthless Mills ASAP.
