Three out of four Xavier freshman are on campus now. Semaj Christon, James Farr and Jalen Reynolds have all moved in. The fourth, Myles Davis is expected to arrive shortly as well.

The word is all four will be good to go this coming year.

Also, when the freshman arrive, they get measurements taken.

Semaj was measured at 6'3

James Farr was measured at 6'10" and 230lbs.

Jalen Reynolds was measured at 6'9.5" with a wingspan of 7'5"!!!

No....I said given who you've played. No one has any clue who you will play in these tourneys.

FDU
Butler
Robert Morris
Pacific
Drexel
Drake

Had you told me this is who you would play two weeks ago I would have said you have a very good chance of being 5-1.

By way of Dayton....given who we've played I would have said 5-0 or 4-1.

I seriously don't understand the dayton fan fascination with Xavier. I don't get it. X is by far not the best team in this league this year, yet they don't concern themselves with the "big boys" of this conference for this year. It's asinine.

Hell, I couldn't name 3 starters for dayton. That's how much they concern me. I'm more concerned about the good teams in this league.

And X is 5-1. I'm very happy with that start considering from where we were starting. Now if we can just get Robinson to play a whole game...

Sorry for discussing basketball here Thor. Welcome back btw.

And you might not, but you have your gang here too that interject everything UD into Xavier conversations. Look at Paul's post just above yours.

I think most people would agree that you just stepped into it with this one.

This is, in fact, a Xavier thread. It is a Xavier thread with a disproportionate amount of posts by Dayton fans. A Xavier thread, sprinkled liberally with one critique after another from Dayton fans is going to attract Xavier fans in rebuttal mode. Offering up that it looks odd that Xavier fans are drawing Dayton into the dialogue in a Xavier thread when UD fans are spending too much time in this thread to begin with doesn't look good for you.

But what really doesn't look good for you is offering up criticisms of Xavier, because you are a Dayton fan. You should be worried about Dayton's program, spending more time in Dayton's threads while you're at it. Dayton's program........needs more success to truly be taken seriously.

Xavier's program is doing fine and will do well from here. We already know what real success looks like and, notwithstanding what transpires this season, are well positioned to sustain it from here.

I haven't been gone, just felt that it was utterly idiotic to interject with all the Xavier doom and gloom that was going on in the off season. Plus my puter died. As for what Paul wrote, I don't see anything dayton related. Are those two guys dayton players? I dunno. Maybe you should get a new phone or something.

God, this is completely useless. These dayton guys bitch and bitch and bitch about Xavier, and EVERY YEAR, yeah, every year they get shown how their obsession blinds their views. Expand your horizons you dolts. Goodness.

Hell, if someone would have told me Xavier would be 5-1 a month ago, I wouldn't have believed it. And by going off the conversations around here a month ago prediciting Xavier's doom and gloom and a "multi-year rough period", one would conclude Xavier would be about 1-5.

But Flyer says he always thought it was absolutely possible for Xavier to be 5-1.

Not sure where this "if I would have known who you were playing 2 weeks ago blah blah blah" is coming from. Xavier's schedule has been up for months.

Instead of making the obvious statement, Xavier has so far, surpassed almost everyone's expectations... Semaj is truly the real deal... Dee, Travis and JMart seem to have really stepped up into their leadership roles etc etc.... We've got UD guys questioning Semaj's defense, questioning Semaj's outside shooting, saying clearly Xavier should be 5-1 if I would know who they were playing blah blah blah.

Flyer, I think you were the one who actually predicted Xavier is in for a "multi-season rough period."

As numerous people have mentioned.... I continue to remain perplexed by UD fans obsession with Xavier. They are prediciting X to finish 7-9th in the A-10. Why we have minute-by-minute game updates, detailed (negative) anaylsis of X games, post after post after post.....

I can only guess it's jealousy. I know if I were a UD fan, I'd be crazy jealous of Xavier's program and the national success it has.

Cause for concern ?

Robert Morris 2012-13 Schedule & Results (Yahoo!)

Lehigh blew out Robert Morris by 29 points.

Rider blew out Robert Morris by 25 points.

Xavier squeaked by Robert Morris by 2 points.

More cause for concern ?

It must suck to spout off all summer about how horrid this team was going to be and then see them sitting at 5-1 after 6 games.
The Flyer Faithful (including me) and Butler fans are both surprised and delighted that Xavier is 5-1 after 6 games.

As I have posted here year after year, I root for all Atlantic 10 teams to win all of their non-conference games - for the sake of the Atlantic 10's Conference RPI Ranking and the Dayton Flyers' Strength of Schedule, which accounts for 75% of Dayton's RPI Rannking. Ditto for Butler.

This season, Dayton and Butler both play Xavier twice, so a bad performance by Xavier in their non-conference games does twice the damage to Dayton's and Butler's S.O.S. compared to the other 13 Atlantic 10 teams.

On Saturday, Xavier should go to 6-1, as Matt Painter has apparently fielded his worst team since the 2005-06 season - his rookie year as Purdue's Head Coach.

2012-13:

Matt Painter
begins his eighth head coaching season at Purdue after losing three senior starters from the previous season, which included All-American Robbie Hummel and point guard Lewis Jackson.

Also leaving the program were would-be seniors in shooting guard John Hart (transferred to IUPUI Jaguars) and suspended guard/forward Kelsey Barlow (transferred to Illinois-Chicago Flames), which leaves Painter with nine underclassmen and with just five upperclassmen and includes last season's Big Ten's Sixth Man of the Year and All-Conference Honorable Mention senior DJ Byrd.

Painter's raw and young squad began the 2013 season with a 1-3 record, where Purdue lost its season opener for the first time during the Painter-era against Bucknell.

Purdue went on to lose both games at Madison Square Garden during the 2012 Preseason NIT Tip-Off by 8 points each against Villanova and Oregon State.

Who knew that constant criticism, desparaging the coach and college for perceived inadequacies, continual efforts to belittle success, attributing talent and achievement to luck and good fortune, and never-ending forecasts of doom and gloom....were all actually "rooting for" a team?

#622 ·
The only part of the Xavier game I saw yesterday was the strange shot clock violation discussion. Then I flipped back and got lost in RedZone bliss again and didn't see the final determination. What the heck was the call there? Did they go back and pretend parts of the game never happened?

#628 · (Edited)
As far as Xavier being 5-1, I'm not sure many people would have predicted them to start much worse than that. Maybe the Butler game. I think most expected a 2-1 trip to Anaheim, just not in the way they ultimately did it. I think most (and by most I mean honest and intelligent people, not internet trolls) have known Xavier's litmus test will be in December.

at Purdue
Vandy (who looks awful so far)
Kent State
neutral floor Cincy
at Tennessee
at Wake Forest

Those are the games that will let us know where Xavier stands. With the exception of Vandy, all still look like real tests. They are either good teams, away from Cintas, or both.

Wofford is a win, so a 4-3 December record would seem reasonable. Anything better is great, anything worse should give pause.

I agree with all this. Thought might be 4-2, but 5-1 wan't crazy given the schedule. People tend to forget that Martin, Davis, Christon etc...pretty damn good high school players and recruits. Cupboard not totally bare.

If there was ever a season to go to Purdue, Tennessee and Wake...it would be this one. While no wins guaranteed, I have watched all three play, and they are all beatable.

We won't know what Chris Mack has this season until Xavier plays the meat of their non-conference schedule:

Astute observation, Adam.

Except for the Wake Forest game being played in December. It's in January.

I just love how it is all luck and the fact that Xavier hasn't played anyone yet.
At least we don't disagree about everything.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am so glad we are starting to see RPI rankings less than a month into the season.
Indeed. Since seeing early-season RPI Rankings apparently makes you happy, here's some more:

Xavier Musketeers - RPI Breakdown (CBS Sports)

3 of Xavier's 5 wins are against teams with an RPI Ranking of # 220 or worse.

Xavier won all 3 of these games by a margin of 4 points or less. Not impressive at all.

Not included in these 3 wins is Xavier's blow-out of RPI # 94 Fairleigh-Dickinson, whose best win of the season is against RPI # 230 Prairie View. Fairleigh-Dickinson picked up a big S.O.S. boost by losing to temporary RPI Top 100 teams.

Xavier's only loss so far (to RPI # 80 Pacific) is already looking like a 'bad loss'.

X lost one game by 3 to a team that shot 71% in the second half. Guess we didn't bring the Butler "D" that day, but wonder how other A-10 teams would hold up under that barrage. So far so good. Very impressive December slate. Wouldn't have it any other way @ X. Tune up in OOC for Conf. play. We just wanna get better by playing good teams.

I realize this is a message board and the anonymity allows everyone to be whoever they wish, but there are times I can't determine if all the cutting and pasting and links are tounge in check or if he is really that delusional?

Sure it is very old, but looking the material as comedy, it is marginally funny. OK maybe not.

Seriously, picking on X's schedule. Kettle, this is pot, you're black. And irrelevent.
