I know we don't even have a 2017 thread yet, but this is too fun not to post.

Ever wonder how a school expresses interest in a player? This is how we do at BU.

BTW, the player is PG Shandon Brown, who already has UVA looking at him.

Looks like we offered Shandon Brown, he might be a bit out of our reach at this point though with offers from Columbia, Lehigh, Duquesne, Rutgers, UMass, DePaul and BC (the offers from Duquesne and UMass might not be relevant though with their coaching changes). Nonetheless, good to see some movement on the 2018 front.

A few recent offeree's that are fairly sought that BU offered this past week.

PG - Miles Latimer, offers from Quinnipiac, Stony Brook, UMBC, and Towson
SG - Andrew Funk, offers from Delaware, Bucknell, Army, Lafayette and Rider
SF - Souleymane Koureissi, offers from Bradley, UC Davis, Towson, Binghamton, Columbia and Stony Brook

A little old but James Bridges, a 6'4 SG from Las Vegas, visited BU a couple weeks ago. He has offers from Eastern Kentucky, UC Riverside, CSU Northridge and University of Portland. With 3 SG's leaving next year, it would be good to add at least two in this class which might have 6 spots to fill.

Offer to Tayler Mattos, a 6"10 forward from New Hampshire. Ranked #8 in New Hampshire according to NERR. Has an offer from UNH, probably pretty interested in BU if he is at the Terrier Elite Camp.

Nikkei Rutty and Jonas Harper also attended the camp, although Harper has reclassified to '19.

I don't know how many camps these recruits go to, so I don't know if this is any indication of interest. It probably can't hurt our chances unless they have a terrible experience at the camp.

Looks like Kenny Jones, a 6 foot PG from Mater Dei Prep in New Jersey recently visited on an unofficial. He has a good list of MAAC and other offers with Quinnipiac, Eastern Kentucky, Monmouth, Towson, NJIT, Stony Brook, Manhattan, Iona, and Saint Joe's offering him already.

A few more names of player's at the elite camp. Jovan Jones is a local kid from Boston and has a really old offer from February of 2016 from BU, as well as an old American offer, and new offers from Qunnipiac and Towson. Jimmy Yfantopulos looks to be entering his junior year and has an offer from D2 Post.

Pretty cool infographic from the media/marketing section of the athletics department.

I wonder if there might be more of a Texas connection now with Jack Perri as an assistant. Hopefully there will be some fruits for their labor from all these trips. With at least 35 offers out, I wonder if this might start to be evaluation for 2019.

Side note: Pretty cool infographic from the media/marketing section of the athletics department.

Here's an early rundown of where we might stand with the whooping 35 offers that we have on Verbal Commits.

Point Guard

Out of our range:
Trey McGowens - Recently picked up offers from Wyoming and Ole Miss. Before this he had mostly taken unofficial visits to southern mid-major programs like East Carolina, Winthrop, and Mercer. The only player we have with comparable high major offers on the roster is Hankerson (VT, Okie State, Minnesota). I would feel comfortable ruling him out at this point.

Edge of our range:
Nick Honor - Currently has offers higher level offers from Dayton, UMass, and UCF. I can't find any information about any visits he has taken so far, but I would consider him a long shot.

Shandow Brown - Has offers from Depaul, BC, UMass, and Okie State but has visited schools like William and Mary and Quinnipiac since those offers.

In Range:
Thomas Shaughnessy
Amir Harris
Kenny Jones - Unofficial, June 30th
Ethan Wright - Unofficial, June 8th
Ithiel Horton
D.J. Peavy
Adam Kunkel
Jose Placer

Shooting Guard:

Out of our range:
Jared Rhoden, reclassified and is looking for a higher offer and should get it.

Edge of range:
Jaylen Sims - Offers from Minnesota and Rhode Island

In range:
Will Dillard
Andrew Funk

Small Forward:

Out of Range:
Souleymane Kouressi offers from Minnesota, Rhode Island, South Florida, Saint Louis

In range:
Jovan Jones, Went to BU Elite Camp
Drew Friberg
Fletcher Tynen

Power Forward

Out of our Range:
Jake Forester, offers from lots of high majors
Marcellus Earlington, not out of range for basketball but will likely be a high major football player

Edge of our Range:
Ryan Young, visited a bunch of high majors (Go Blue!) but hasn't received any offers from them. Lots of solid mid major offers, would be a Walter Whyte level of recruit.

In Range:
Gavin Bizeau
Sean Good
Jordan Guest
Chuck Hannah - Unofficial, June 18, 2016
Nikkei Rutty - Went to BU Elite Camp
Jack Hemphill
Josh Alexander
Tayler Mattos - Went to BU Elite Camp
Richard Njoku - Unofficial, early June

Center

In Range:
Jake Walter
Quentin Millora-Brown
Nathan Springs

BU is now up to 43 offers for this class, a couple of interesting things that stick out is there is there are two offers to foreign players, Dontas Kupsas of Lithuania, and a JUCO player named Kenechukwu Chukwuka who is listed as a being from Sweden and is in the same class as Scanlon, Mahoney, and Barnes. Besides that, its anyone's guess at this point which players might have an interest in BU and which ones will ultimately be part of the 2018 class.

First big swing and miss for BU so far. Point guard Kenny Jones, who unofficially visited BU recently, has committed to Loyola Maryland. Hopefully this doesn't come back to bite us as failing to sign Andre Walker has for 3, going on 4, years. Good pick-up for the Greyhounds who should start on his first day; he had offers from Quinnipiac, Eastern Kentucky, Monmouth, Towson, NJIT, Stony Brook, Iona, Manhattan, and St. Joe's.

Shandon Brown is down to two, Quinnipiac and George Washington. That would be a big improvement in recruiting for Quinnipiac if they were able land him.

BU has offered Lithuanian Lukas Kisunas from Brewster Academy. I think the foreign connection is a good idea for BU especially with Boston being such an international city. Often, highly skilled foreign players will consider places like Hartford, Charlotte and other schools if they feel like it's the right fit. Personally, I would probably try for other Europeans, besides Lithuanians, given how developed and scouted Lithuanian players already are, but this would be a great get for BU.

3 more names off the board:

PG Ethan Wright to Princeton
PG Antonio Rizzuto to Albany
PF Gavin Bizeau to Duquesne

One interesting thing about Wright's commitment to Princeton is that Princeton already has a really highly touted PG coming in for their 2018 class. Jaelin Llewellyn is rated a 3.5 star PG with offers from Minnesota, Clemson, Stanford, Northwestern, Purdue, George Washington, Cincinnati, Harvard, Charlotte, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, UNLV, Creighton, Wake Forest, Rhode Island, Virginia, Penn State, Ohio State, Providence, and Florida. Wright will get a great education, but probably never projects to be a starter there. HYP have really increased their talent level these past 5 years or so.

Rizzuto is a good pick-up for Will Brown and Albany as they try to keep pace with Vermont and Jim Ferry was a great hire for Duquesne that may finally turn them around.
