ESPN to end the BracketBusters event after the 2012 games-good run, many good games for MAAC, opens scheduling for 2014 MAAC schedule

Makes sense to end it given the conferences and schools that no longer participate, and it was a good run for the event, but agree probably a good time to end it.

Will make scheduling interesting games a bit more difficult for us, but that's fine.

ESPN got greedy...took a great thing and tried to make it greater. No need to have 68 games & 136 mid-major teams playing...at that point, it had lost a lot of what it was originally designed to do.

It's too bad because a lot of those games at the beginning were pretty great...

And I agree, when you have teams thinking they are too big now to be a part of it even though their league is a mid-major, it waters it down.

Having the Marist's and the UNH's of the mid-major world really had no effect on ESPN- ESPN was only putting the however many, 7 or 8 best match-ups on TV anyways.

It got killed IMO by marquee teams like Gonzaga dropping out, then Butler dropped out IIRC, then ultimately the entire CAA quit due to NBC contract, and you've got schools like VCU moving A10.

When you've got all these mid-major teams/conferences not participating, it really just stops becoming the Bracketbusters anymore.

No arguments on any of that...however, the hassle of just scheduling all those games was dropped on someone at ESPN. You have to check and see who has played who, do they already have them on their schedule, keep track of who plays home & away...just a lot of crap to deal with when those games aren't doing anything for your network.

It's quite simple.

If you're the fan of a school in a low mid, obscure conference (the AE) that doesn't get a lot of attention and have been successful over the 11 years of the Bracketbuster, the value is obvious. Or, if you're a school that has difficulty getting home games for whatever reason, the value is also obvious.

If you're the fan of a school that for the most part has been on the low end or middling in a mid-major conference, then the event was a waste of a trip and worthless and you're not going to see any value.
