Early 2013 Predictions

Putting this up while the NFL Draft forum is still getting traffic.

Quarterback: Barkley goes 1. Tyler Wilson will go right behind him, really like his accuracy. It'll look good for him if he has another big year while losing some of his receivers and play caller. I'm not crazy high on Landry Jones, Tyler Bray or Logan Thomas at this stage.

LSU, Florida State, and Georgia will get a shit ton of defensive players drafted. I'm too lazy to look up the other two, but Georgia could legitimately have 12 defensive players drafted next year if their underclassmen declare.

He's raw but Logan Thomas > Jones and Bray. Maybe even Wilson.

Who else do you have?

I can see Zach Mettenberger rising up team's draft boards, because of his size and arm. If they can finally put it all together, maybe EJ Manuel and Aaron Murray? But I see all of those as guys who will go in the 3rd or 4th round.

Barkley
Bray
Wilson
Jones
Thomas

Then Murray/Manuel/Mettenberger/Glennon/Smith/McCarron that could work there ways up draft board or could completely fall off. But i could see Murray/Manuel really moving up draft boards same with Geno Smith. Then there is always a guy that comes out of nowhere to be a top QB prospect like Casey Pachall from TCU or Taj Boyd

Re: Early 2013 Predictions

Maybe it's just me, but as Rodney Peete remains the best USC QB, career-wise, I would be real hesitant about drafting Barkley.

Carson Palmer prior to the knee injury?

Yeah, I agree. You never know who is going to have a good (or bad) season out of nowhere.

Before this year's draft, I was thinking Aaron Murray would enter the 2014 draft as a redshirt senior, but there were some guys drafted this year that I don't think are better NFL QB's than him.

Re: Early 2013 Predictions

Every mock draft I've read today has the same top ten.

Barkley, JJones, Woods, Lattimore (actually think he doesn't go in round 1, he's not as dynamic as Richardson), Amerson, Teo, Mingo, TWilson, Fluker, Montgomery

USC could have had the first three on the same team, but Lane Kiffin told Jarvis Jones his injury was too severe to play football again.

But that's the point, he sucks now and he'll continue to go out there sucking until someone finally gives him the gas and performs a mercy killing on his career. It's like there's a black cloud over USC and every QB from there is destined to bust.

Umm, no, the point is prime Palmer > Peete.

Re: Early 2013 Predictions

Barring injury I think Montee Ball goes in the first. The way he refined his body last year was incredible and hopefully all these late night bar tweets that I'm seeing from him don't affect him too much. He can run and catch, finds holes and hits them hard, doesn't dance in the backfield, and picks up blitzes. He's everything you want except the breakaway speed, but I don't think many #1 RBs in the NFL have that now anyway. If he doesn't, some team is going to be very happy in the 2nd or 3rd.
