Boy, did Barkley ever screw up if he really does slip to the second round. He should know that as a USC QB he's going to bust and he needs as much on that first contract as he can get,

It weird going into this season there was like 10 top QB prospects. And now at the end of the season there is barely 2

Also, given that the Chiefs have the worst QBs, possibly in Division 1-AA (much less the NFL) I can't see a way where they don't draft Geno Smith. Even if it means trading down.

I dont think there is anyway you can take Geno Smith #1 overall. They have to trade down like you said. Or wait till the 2nd to get a QB

Cowboys pressing needs are DT/DE and OT. We could use a safety, but it isn't a dire need, and they gave injured FS Barry Church a new contract during the season (while he was injured, actually). Everyone knows Doug Free isn't going to cut it at RT, so he needs to be replaced. Jerry Jones and oft-injured Jay Ratliff just had a very publicized confrontation where he the owner challenged Ratliff to play through his injury after the car accident that sidelined Josh Brent and killed Jerry Brown.

Given all the pass rushers that seem to fly off the board immediately after the Cowboys pick, it'd be a shame if they didn't draft one, trade down to a spot at which they are comfortable taking one, or trade up for an OT.

I don't think they'll wait on QB. They don't have a single below average NFL starter on their roster at the moment. And there aren't any that I can see that I would want to bet my franchise on outside Smith. So I expect them to trade down a few spots to nab him.

Trading a 3-4th Rounder for Matt Flynn is a much better option than Geno Smith #1.

Haven't the Chiefs gone that route before? That's part of the reason that they suck. I mean, let's be honest, Matt Flynn couldn't beat out a 5'10" rookie QB.

Russell Wilson has been really good this year, and I don't see how you can argue otherwise. I am not sold on Geno Smith really, but KC definitely needs a QB and there's not much else to choose from. No idea why they didn't go after someone like Jason Campbell this offseason. If they just had competent QB play that could be a decent team. ****ing Brady Quinn looked like an All-Pro against our secondary though.

The talent level on the Chiefs isn't as great as some people might think. Their defense has regressed a lot since making the playoffs and a lot of their high draft picks just haven't had the impact you would expect. They absolutely, positively need a quarterback to build around, not another journeyman who will be a function of the team around him and not one of or the driving force. Whether they take one at 1.1 (if they end up with the worst record) or try to trade down a couple of spots, I'm not sure it matters all that much, the pressure will be high regardless.

I just think that the value you get from Geno Smith is going to be there with the first pick in the second round. Kind of reminds me of when the Chargers traded #1 (Mike Vick) for picks that ended up being Tomlinson and Brees. The difference is that they don't have to trade down.

What other non-certain busts are out there? I mean Barkley is about as close as it gets to a sure failure. Some NFL team dodged a bullet when he made the foolish decision to try and be the first pick, because they would have drafted the next Mark Sanchez with a top 10 pick.
