100 greatest songs of all time!
I loved reading the thread about the 100 greatest albums of all time in Minstrel's forum and I decided to start a thread about the 100 greatest songs. The rules are pretty much the same, you can only vote for one song at a time and can't make to posts in a row. The difference is that there will be no vetoes this time until the final cut and we will take more than 150 songs before the cut since there are many more songs than albums, but I haven't decided how many yet.
I'll get us started.
Drift Away - Dobie Gray
This song got me through my senior year of high school.

Heroin - The Velvet Underground
Rock bands just didn't sing about drugs. Until the VU came along.

"If There's Hell Below (We're All Gonna Go)" - Curtis Mayfield.
I was just listening to his "Curtis" LP, so this one is fresh on my mind.
Talk about social outcry... Only Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" LP is at the level that "Curtis" is... and even then I don't know if it eclipses it... Gaye is the better vocalist of the two though...

London Calling - The Clash
The definitive "call to arms" punk song. The world is going to hell and what are you going to do about it?

But most of all I wish that I was someone else but me.
Now I don't have a coat of silk, but I still have the sky
Now I don't have a lady, but there goes a butterfly
Now I don't have a house of stone, but I can see the sea
Now most of all I know that I am happy to be me.
I'm happy to be me.
I'd like to say I made this, but I didn't

You don't know dick - Ric Seaberg
Very clever song, IMO, with great guitar.
