Well that's obvious. Why would Payton let them retire his jersey if he never played for them?

The only way I feel ANY team should retire a jersey is if the player actually played in that teams jersey. Even if one game. Not the original name (exception being Washington Wizards and others who did not relocate but changed names).

To make a short story long... I agree with Payton. Plus, technically, the Sonics folded and the Thunder was treated as an expansion team without dispersal draft.
