James Harden?

Hey guys, big fan of Durant here.

I was really hoping that OKC draft Rubio after I saw Memphis pick Thabeet. That really surprised me and I was uber excited for like 5 minutes until I saw they drafted Harden and I was like WTF?

I was really looking forward to Rubio playing with Durant. I know OKC have Westbrook, bla bla bla bla but after seeing Rubio in the Olympics, I know this kid will be special. Harden on the other hand, I don't know anything except the 30sec video highlight they showed on draft day and the few scouting reports I read.

What I want to know from OKC fans is, what do you know of Harden?

Do you really think he was a better pick than Rubio?

Is Harden All-Star material because I think Rubio is, maybe even superstar material.

Am I the only one who wanted Rubio to pair with Durant?

Re: James Harden?

I don't know if Rubio will be better than Harden or vice versa, but I do know that Russell Westbrook is (somehow) grossly underrated. He scored about 15 a game in his rookie season, and the defense he provides against opposing point guards is invaluable. The cold, typical point guard tendencies will come with time. For now, I think OKC would be nuts to try move Westbrook to the 2 (the likely shoe to drop if they had drafted Rubio). Yes, his PG skills are a little under par after his rookie season, but I can't help but feel that his awesome defense would be severely challenged if he tried to guard 2s. Just because he's a big PG that can defend doesn't mean that he would be successful as the slightly-undersized 2.

OKC did the right thing.

Re: James Harden?

I think Harden's efficient style of play is a great addition to the team. He'll get his with out having to take shots away from Durant. Only concern I'd have is he isn't quite as fast as you might want him to be making him fresh meat to lightning quick NBA guards. It's not that he's slow, just many guards in the league are that fast. Nothing good team defense can't help.

Re: James Harden?

I thought it was a good pick. Harden is a great fit in the backcourt and will provide a smooth and efficient game from that spot. It was the main hole on their roster and its now filled.

Consider the growth Durant and Green made in their 2nd years - Westbrook will do the same.

Re: James Harden?

i was really liking weaver and thabo at the 2 for the thunder actually. weaver and thabo played well when durant was out. i'm not sure if harden is that much better than weaver or thabo in the nba.. he's a crafty player that's for sure but i'm not sure he brings much more to the table than those two guys. it was the right choice considering thabeet was gone, i just don't think he's going to have much of an impact.

Re: James Harden?

Now it looks like Paul Millsap might be making his way to OKC. With Houston and Phoenix seeming to be fading out of the picture, I think he makes them a legitimate playoff contender. The scary thing is that they'll have $15+m in cap space in 2010 to add some pieces, as well.

PG: Russell Westbrook...Earl Watson...Chucky Atkins
SG: James Harden...Thabo Sefolosha...Kyle Weaver
SF: Kevin Durant...Jeff Green...Damien Wilkins
PF: Paul Millsap...Nick Collison...D.J. White
C: Nenad Krstic...B.J. Mullens

The 2009-2010 Los Angeles Lakers
PG: Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar
SG: Kobe Bryant, Shannon Brown, Sasha Vujacic
SF: Ron Artest, Luke Walton, Adam Morrison
PF: Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Josh Powell
C: Andrew Bynum, D.J. Mbenga

Re: James Harden?

Paul Millsap can really lift this team... What is OKC cap space situation? Should they go after somebody like Boozer or Amare to provide low post threat on O and help Durant out with the offensive load?

Re: James Harden?

I thought Harden was a great pick as a pure 2-guard for you guys, but Rubio made sense because Westbrook is athletic enough to play the 2 as well. I'm personally not sold on Westbrook as a POINT guard, so I'd have personally taken Rubio if I was sure he'd be coming over. I do think very highly of Harden though, I think he'll be a very good sidekick to KD.
