Comments on Dwight

Wrote Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune, “Teenagers! Aaargh! The attitude! The laziness! The annoying pebble in your shoe that won’t go away. On the basketball court too. Especially on the basketball court. But maybe not this time. Maybe not Dwight Howard…Howard might be the most overlooked No. 1 overall draft pick to come along in the last decade….he’s learning , fast enough to look like a candidate for Rookie of the Year. Rookie of the Year voting? Try Howard, (Luol) Deng, J.R. Smith, (Emeka) Okafor and the Bulls Andres Nocioni.”

Added Chad Ford of ESPN.com, “Dwight Howard for Rookie of the Year? When Dwight Howard entered the draft this year, the only thing everyone could agree on was that, while he was talented, he was no LeBron James. The way Howard has been playing in training camp, we might have to revise that scouting report.”

At this point I am convinced Dwight was the pick over Okafor. Finally maybe Orlando management got one right. I think this kid is the real deal holyfield.

I'm telling you, that HS class of 2004, is special. The best one since 1995.
It would not shock me, if every one of the HS guys at some point or another become all-stars.
I'm fairly certain that Dwight Howard, Al Jefferson, Shaun Livingston, Sebastian Telfair, JR Smith, Dorell Wright and Josh Smith will become all-stars.
Robert Swift, I am more of the belief that he will become a fine center, but I think more talented players, will not allow him to be an All-star.
The most raw talented guys of this HS group isn't even in the NBA yet, Rudy Gay, Shawne Williams and LaMarcus Aldridge.
We may look back on this group as the one that re-defined the NBA and saved the league again.

It's more likely that half of those guys become complete busts. The Magic can only hope that Dwight won't be one of them. He's looked good so far though. I just hope people don't go overboard on their expectations of Dwight. If you're expecting David Robinson or Kevin Garnett this season, you'll be sadly disapointed. He'll make a nice contribution but he's still extremely raw on offense and can be passive at times on both ends of the court.

I'm telling you. This group is special. Only two others like it in terms of NBA caliber talent in 79 and 95. These guys got it. We're watching the future.

I don't think anyone is expecting DRob or KG this season. That obviously isn't going to happen.

The fans in the know are aware of that. But I've definitly seen some of these expectations get out of hand.

True. Seriously, we can't expect any more than a Shaq like first season ... anything more than that would be un-realistic.

Howard looked awesome in preseason. Considering he is 4th, sometimes 5th option, his stats are impressive.
I think he will be a bigger KG which means he is going to be an amazing player.
