Jent among Orlando's coaching candidates
http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbc...504280330/1002
I can believe the Magic are even considering this. Did'nt we learn out lesson from Johnny Davis. Why cant we go out there and hire a proven coach?
Whatd do you guys think?

Re: Jent among Orlando's coaching candidates
I seriously doubt Jent's even being considered, I think it's more of a formality than anything to at least interview Jent and give him a chance to make a case for himself being that he is the interim. I wouldn't worry too much, his chances of being the Magic's coach next season aren't much higher than your's or mine.

Re: Jent among Orlando's coaching candidates
Mike Bianchi agrees with me
Magic interest in Jent just a sham
Quote:
Come on, don't be silly. Chris Jent is a candidate for the Magic head-coaching job about like Billy Manes was a candidate for mayor. Jent has a chance to become the next head coach of the Magic like Dom DeLuise has a chance to become the next James Bond.
As most teams do with interim coaches, the Magic simply granted Jent a courtesy interview and then gave him a glowing evaluation (see Gary Darnell, Terry Robiskie, Jim Bates and Alan Gooch) on the way out the door. No way can the Magic even consider hiring Jent after already failing with two previous unproven coaches -- Johnny Davis and Doc Rivers.
The time for experimentation is over. With the future of the franchise in jeopardy, this might well be the most important hire in team history. The next head coach must have a track record, not a blank resume.

Re: Jent among Orlando's coaching candidates
It's not a sham. It's called being a classy organization, and showing respect.
Unless of course the NBA has set a limit on the # of coaches you can interview. Did they? In that case, I agree, this is dumb. If not, then this is just treating your employers like they deserve to be.

It is being classy, but at the same time, I don't really believe Orlando has any intention of bringing Jent back. If that is true, then it is kind of like a chick leading along a guy she doesn't really like.
On a side note, I read recently it looks like Eric Musselman might be the top guy for the job in Minnesota. That would be too bad.
That might leave Orlando with only Brian Hill and Chris Jent to choose from since it is doubtful Flip Saunders would come to Orlando.

Damn, that would suck. Anyone know if Doug Collins is interested in returning to coaching? I would definitely take him over Jent or even Hill.

Re: Jent among Orlando's coaching candidates
Let the Magic keep screwing around with these other losers. We will miss out on a good head coach and continue to fall down the mountain. Seriously. I'm tired of seeing nice. I want to see winning. Kick these losers to the side and get a real head coach.

Musselman could choose to come to Orlando over Minnesota, it's really not that much of a stretch in my opinion. If both offers were on the table, I think he'd have a hard decision. He's worked in the Orlando organization before and has some familarity here. Minnesota's the better team now and they have one of the best players in the league, but around that what do they have other than turmoil? At least Orlando has a lottery pick to work with to go around one of the best young talents in the NBA and a solid core, with tradeable assets. I'm not saying he'd choose Orlando over Minnesota, but it's possible.

I agree. It's just that I read he was being considered the top for the job there. I'd say both would probably equally considerable situations and it might come down to who offers the most money. Orlando has the draw of the future of Dwight and Minny does have the former MVP. I hope Orlando can snatch him up, he'd be my first choice.

Musselman, an assistant for the Memphis Grizzlies, has made it known he has interest in the Magic job. He was a scout for Orlando in 1997 and then worked under Chuck Daly and Doc Rivers as an assistant with the Magic.
