Re: Weisbrod Resigns

Wow, shocking move to say the least.

This could only mean one thing -- The Magic are bringing in a new coach who will also be the GM of the team, probably Flip Saunders. He's the only candidate with a big enough name to make this sort of demand.

Re: Weisbrod Resigns

Hopefully if it's Flip he uses guys like Otis Smith to help him out a LOT with the GM duties because handling both jobs usually doesn't seem to work.

Also, I know it's a longshot but if KG really wants out this would have to help us .

Anyway, if this works out as expected Flip should be a significant upgrade at both coach and GM.

EDIT: I didn't realize this, but Flip has pulled off the coach/GM double before. He did it in the CBA from 1991-1993, and he was actually hired as Minny's GM in May 1995 (yes that means he was the one who drafted KG) before becoming the coach as well in December of the same year.

Re: Weisbrod Resigns

Man flip being the coach AND the GM??? I dont know, seems like a lot of priority for a guy who couldnt keep a wining record (well barely) with a wolves team with a lot of talent. I am not really against it, but I am just going to question it. I think a coach should have to win a chamiopnship or get to the finals in order to do all that.....

Re: Weisbrod Resigns

Don't just use this past season to look at Flip. Flip made the playoffs with the Wolves for so many years in a row before this past season. Sure he didn't get very far all those years they bounced in the first round but those teams were basically KG with no help. When they finally got KG some help they were 2 wins away from the Finals and probably would have won it all. I think this is great news, but we still don't know if Flip is officially even coming to Orlando yet.

Re: Weisbrod Resigns

Supposedly Flip wants $8 million per year. Kind of a steep price for him in my opinion, considering Phil Jackson is wanting in the neighborhood of $10 million.

Very much surprising news. Seems a little weird. I wonder what the full story is.

``It's not in the best interest of the organization of having a GM that, in his heart, would trade three NBA championships for one Stanley Cup,'' said Weisbrod, also the team's chief operating officer.
Wow, to think we had him at the helm for a year. Glad to see him go.

Even though JW is gone, he did more in one year than Gabe did in 5. I think this team is on the right path. Well maybe not. We hired Hill after all.
