Re: Orlando Magic hire Brian Hill as new (old) coach
I guess this is a good hire. Not entirely sure. It does seem a little odd to hire your new coach before the new GM.

Re: Orlando Magic hire Brian Hill as new (old) coach
I like this move as Hill is a disciplined coach and he'll bring alot of attention back to the magic.

Damnit.
Hill's a fine coach and all, but hiring him after serious talks with Flip Saunders and Musselman also still available? Not a good move at all for the Magic, I don't know what they're thinking.

Hill is still under contract with the Nets. Any chance we have to give up a pick or something as comepensation?

Brian Hill next Magic coach
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2066733
The Orlando Magic's search for a new head coach has led them back to a familiar face.
Two league sources told ESPN Insider Chad Ford on Monday that the Magic will hire Brian Hill as their new head coach.
Hill coached the Magic during their heyday years from 1993-1996 and compiled a 191-104 record during his stint. He is the only Magic head coach to ever lead the Magic to an NBA Finals appearance.
The team also flirted with Flip Saunders, Eric Musselman and Chris Ford but in the end, felt that the experience, discipline and familiarity with the organization made Hill the man for the job. He should be a popular choice with the fans in Orlando and bring a different type of spirit to the organization.
The hiring of Hill might be the first step in helping fans forget the last few dark years and start remembering the golden age when Hill, Shaq and Penny were on top of the world.
Hill is currently an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets.

Re: Orlando Magic hire Brian Hill as new (old) coach
I don't like this at all. The only reason Brian Hill was so successful with the Magic in his first stint was because of Shaq. Any coach would have led the Magic to successful seasons back then. If Brian Hill is such a good coach, why has he been an assistant coach for so long, even after taking the Magic to the Finals. The Magic had a chance at Flip Saunders and Eric Mussleman and didn't take it.

I guess the Magic just love to stay losers. They should have hired Mussleman. The end.

Re: Orlando Magic hire Brian Hill as new (old) coach
Just curious, but does anyone actually feel that Brian Hill is an upgrade from Doc Rivers? I'll give Hill the benefit of the doubt, but I think by the end of the year, the answer will be a sound no.

I put them on the same level. Hill is probably the better X's and O's coach, whereas Doc is a guy I'm sure players like to play for, and he gets the most out of them 100% of the time. Neither is really a great coach in my opinion.

Re: Merged: Magic re-hire Brian Hill as Head Coach
I agree that coach is important, but the five guys out on the court are more important then the guy in the suit on the sideline. As long as they have some one that knows anything about Basketball, then I think we'll do fine. All Hill has to do is coach the team to play as a team, teach them defensive schemes and some of offensive plays, and be smart during games and the players will take it from there (hopefully).

ahh, good ol' Brian Hill... he's a nice guy, but yah he ain't exactly a top-tier coach.... did everyone forget that he coached the Vancouver Grizzlies for awhile?!? We (Vancouver) were so excited when we hired him, given his great record with Orlando... but he really couldn't do much to make our team any better. So yah, don't expect too much from him folks.
