How About Hakim Warrick From Syracuse?

I know he is pretty weak right now but he is very athletic, a really good rebounder/shot blocker and he has a good work ethic. If he could put about 20 pounds of muscle on he could be very good for us. He could play the 3 or 4 and Howard could play 4 or 5. What do you think?

welcome...

Warrick is a tough call IMO. I usually don't buy into the "tweener" stuff very much, but it really does seem like Warrick is a true tweener. He's got a great vertical and arms that go on forever, but my only concern would be whether he can ever really put on the weight and strength he'd need to be a full-time PF in the league. And I really don't think he has the perimeter skills to be a SF ... he is not a good ball handler and doesn't have much of a shot from deep.

I don't think I would be upset if Orlando picked him because he is certainly going to provide some exciting plays wherever he goes .. but as far as helping Orlando to wins, I'd rather see us take someone bigger and stronger if we go big ... I almost think with our other best options probably gone by our pick that maybe we should go with Ike Diogu.

Re: How About Hakim Warrick From Syracuse?

Personally, I don't see Warrick as an NBA PF unless he is able to put on 30lbs of muscle which will serioulsy negate his quickness. At Syracuse most of his points came on put backs and dunks, in the NBA he will have to show he has an outside shot and I haven't seen that from him yet. I would prefer Diogu, Simien, or May over Warrick in a heartbeat. All of them have shown they are most than a dunk artist. With Howard in the post you cannot have another PF type clogging the lane, the other big on the court has to be able to hit a 10' jumper to open things up for Dwight.

Well the knicks and warriors have been said to be interested, so I think 11 isn't too high to take Warrick.

Re: How About Hakim Warrick From Syracuse?

I will be very disappointed if we take Warrick. He is the definition of a tweener. He was able to excel in college but I look at some of the college stars in this draft like him and Sean May and I just don't see their games translating well to the NBA.

At 11, some of the guys I would look at are Wright, Granger, Petro, and Vasquez.
