The NBA is investigating a complaint by the Magic that the New York Knicks used an inactive player in Friday night's game at Madison Square Garden, club sources told The Sentinel.
The Magic say that the active roster that Coach Brian Hill and his staff received from the Knicks before the game had forward Jackie Butler listed as inactive. Teams have up to an hour before game-time to identify and submit their active and inactives.
Butler, a rookie out of Coastal Christian Academy (Va), entered the game with six minutes, 18 seconds left in the first quarter and played 1:46 and the came back for just 10 seconds in the second period. He did not play in the second half.
I'm not sure what this means. Would the Knicks get fined if they are guilty? It's not like he made an impact I dont think so it really couldn't have cost us the game. I'm just curious as to what the League would/could do about it.

I'm sure that Butler's impact on the game was minimal, but I think the Knicks are facing a pretty hefty fine for this one.
They'll probably have to enforce something even if he so called didn't effect the game. Sort of a "make sure you don't do this" message from the league.

When I was watching the game the announcers said that they checked with someone and that the NBA never put into place any sort of written punishment for this.
It'll be interesting to see the outcome. Most likely a small fine. That'd be funny as **** if they forfeited the game but I doubt that happens.

If this is true, the Knicks will be forced to forfeit this game. That is the rule for this circumstance. It will be interesting to see what the NBA has to say about it. Wouldn't it be funny if we get into the playoffs by 1/2 a game?
