as a coach? I hope he leaves to be the Hawks new GM, but would you be upset? Orlando would probably hire McMillan or Silas if that happened

I'm curious as to what qualifications Doc Rivers has to be an NBA GM. I don't think coaching in this league is a big deal anyway.

He's okay. He's certainly not a bad coach. I'd rather have him as coach unless we can get a REAL coach like Van Gundy.

Coaching is a VERY big deal in the NBA. Rivers is not the GM Gabriel is! Who else would make such a wonderful trade for Giricek and Gooden for one Mike Miller?

And Doc is a fine NBA coach, his players really like him, they respect him, he has proven he can get them to play hard even with a lack of talent the past few years because of Grants injury. Doc is a players coach obviously and that is part of the reason for his success, but he is still strict.

Magic should not even think of firing him, wonderful young coach that has great communication skills!

Pat rilley coaches better than van gundy doesnt he?

I am no coach expert but didn't pat rilley always get his team involved with DEFENSE.. That is exactly what the magic need right now..some quality defense. I know a lot of you hate pat rilley. If so, please state why you hate him and what is so great about gundy...

I don't hate Riley, but he's too old. He's obviously forgotten how to win, much like George Karl. Of course, Riley at least has an excuse because his team is full of mediocre players(Jones is the closest thing to a star, and he's really average compared to the other SG's in the east), while George Karl has a few stars(Payton, Cassell, and Ray and Big Poodle before they were traded).

Van Gundy has shown that he can win, no matter what. Ewing or without Ewing, Spree or without Spree, this guy finds a way to win. His team may not win championships, but they are always a consistent contender.

That's the party line, but I don't buy it. Coaching doesn't mean much in the NBA. It's about the talent on the roster. You stick a Phil Jackson on the Cavs, they're still the Cavs.

whaa... no way... theres an abundance of talent in the NBA, just players arent in the right situations. Rodney White is just one example... Could start on a team, but with Tskitzvilli the projected star small forward, White will be out of a position. If he didnt have this late season burst, he woulda just been another bench player whos an "underachiever". But in reality, all these "underachievers" are actually just people in the wrong situations. The Bulls are loaded with em, Lonny Baxter for instance. Lavor Postell? who knows he might get signed by The Clips and become a star... who the **** knows. Even our own Jeryl Sasser i think can become a starter in the right situation.

If any of that made sense, ill be happy, but does anyone get my point?

I understand what you're saying, BUT all of those you mentioned are "solid role player types", not guys you build around but the ones who are added to a super star or two on a team that has their super stars established.

If we didn't have too many teams, we'd see more support for the Cavs, the Nuggets, etc. Too many role player types because we have too many teams. In the 80s, with only 23 teams instead of 29(soon to be 30), each team had 2/3 stars and they competed - whereas today with 29/30 teams, we have power forwards who play center!(Horace Grant, Dale Davis, Shawn Kemp, Kurt Thomas, etc. etc.)
