It's been a week

It's been a week or so since we got rid of Francis.

At the same time Grant Hill is back in the starting lineup. And he's taking the most shots on the team lately. Now I haven't been able to watch any of the games this year, except the pre-season game against the Heat, but wasn't one of the main problems Francis shooting too much and Dwight not getting enough?

With Hill back, it seems that it's the same thing all over again, except this time it's a "niceguy" taking all the shots instead of a knucklehead.

On a side note how bout that Darko? Looks like a solid game according to the boxscore.

Re: It's been a week

Grant Hill doesn't seem to dominate the ball as much. Hill seems to be the last resort when the shot clock is running down, so he usually ends up creating his own shot any times there is little time left. Plus, not many people seem to be able to get the ball down to Howard well, and Howard can't seem to get good position a lot. Arroyo came in that first game and looked extremely promising by getting the ball to Howard so easily, but he hasn't done much with him since.

And Darko, he's going to be good. We have our big men set for a long time.

Re: It's been a week

I don't have a problem with Hill taking shots because it is a matter of intent. As for Darko, he is learning the system and beginning to produce. I like the future of Dwight and Darko.

Darko has been fabulous. Straight up. Much better off the bat than I expected him to be. He has made very few mistakes and the mistakes he has made, IMO, have been mistakes of over-effort ... like trying to block too many shots or coming way too far out when stepping out on pick and rolls.

Him and Dwight haven't played too much on the court together so far (Darko is usually with Garrity or Battie) but when they have been on the court together they've looked real nice.

After 4 games there is little doubt in my mind Darko is already a top 5 defensive big in the NBA. I'm quite frankly shocked at why he wasn't playing Detroit. At first his rebounding looked weak but he has picked that up the last couple. I'm not spotting a whole lot of weaknesses. We're talking about a 7'1" kid who had no problem manning up on Lamar Odom the other night ... I'm ecstatic about the addition of Darko. In fact, I find myself hoping Battie gets into foul trouble just so he gets more PT.

Re: It's been a week

i think the remainder of the season is an audition for some of these guys including the coach. what you have is a very young team. i wouldnt have some 5 year plan here i would use the draft and especially free agency and try to build a team to win right now. the types of players i think they should be looking for are some veteran defesive types and some shooters. they're sitting on a goldmine here but i think its going to have to be done right or the results will suffer. personally i would be looking for a new coach, maybe a tom izzo type or even a coach k. with their cap space get some wing defenders and draft a shooter, its all easier said than done i guess.

Re: It's been a week

As long as they keep Dwight, Darko and Jameer they will be set in 2 years after free agency. I still can't beleive the Pistons let Darko go for so little.

I know Darko hasn't played in forever, but you'd think he could get 30 minutes or more a game. And I really think he should start. He trumps Battie in nearly every possible basketball category.

Honestly I think the only reason Arroyo and Darko aren't starting right now is to keep from upsetting Dooling and Battie. I don't care much if Darko is starting the way he's been getting minutes late in games. Unfortunately last night I think Hill got his rotations a little screwed so he didn't have Darko on the court at the end of the game. I was really hoping he'd put him back in.
