Orlando's Offense
What type of offense do you think we'll see out of the Magic in the 06-07 season? With Dwight getting better and a full training camp to work in Darko plus the potential of a new starting shooting guard, how much do you see the offense changing?

Re: Orlando's Offense
From a statistical standpoint at least, Dwight Howard needs more touches. He only shoots (as in attempts) only 7 field goals per game and still is able to score 16 points a game. Zach Randoph puts up 16 field goals per game and scores only 2 points more per game. Howard's field goal percentage 53%. Howard is going to put the ball in the basket if you give it to him. Id like to see him average 4 or 5 more shots per game. He could be a 20 or 22 ppg scorer shooting over 50% from the field as well as nab 13-15 rebounds per game a two blocks. Thats what I expect from him. And as far as I'm concerned that would make him the best center in the league. Yes... if you can do all that defensively you are a center.

I don't think Dwight's field goal attempts are as big of an issue as some people make. You aren't taking into account the opportunities he gets where he gets fouled. I thought last season, as the year was winding down, Orlando was getting the ball to Dwight almost enough. Not quite enough, but almost. If he can up his free throw percentage a bit, maybe hit a jumper or two a game, and get just a couple more shots a game he should easily be around or above 20 ppg.
IMO I think Orlando, especially with Redick, Nelson, and Hedo in the lineup - should dump the ball down into Dwight or Darko on just about every non-fastbreak possession. Even if they don't take the shot, they should touch the ball. Darko isn't the athletic monster that Dwight is but he clearly has more refined post moves.

Re: Orlando's Offense
I'd love to see Orlando use Redick off of curls and picks. David Thorpe mentioned some great points about the Orlando offense with JJ in the link I posted in the draft thread. Run JJ on a curl basically anywhere on the court and it's a good shot. If you were to run JJ off a Howard pick down low and have Jameer pass the ball to Redick anywhere around 15-20 feet I'm sure Dwight would get a lot of easy quick shots. The defense will rush Redick because of his reputation and fight through the pick, by the time Redick receives the ball the defender should be rushing up, instead of taking the shot Redick also has the option of a quick pass to Howard on the block. Redick doesn't need to dominate the ball, but if you run him around picks he doesn't always need to take the shot. He can be used to create openings for others because of his rep. Have Jameer or Ariza cutting through the lane as JJ runs around the pick, JJ receives and hits the cutter.
I wasn't big on the JJ move before, but his reputation alone will make it easier for the rest of the players. Everyone knows he can shoot, and he's extremely dangerous off of picks. The defense will be shadowing him the entire time, and fighting through to get out on JJ if he receives the ball.
If Hill is smart, he'll not only run plays for JJ shots, but also as decoys. Howard needs more touches, as does Darko. However we can't have everyone scoring the basketball. Someone will have to give up attempts to our big guys, because I don't see us creating a whole lot more.

Miami? They're even in your avatar!
I'd rather we have low expectations for the kids, because over the past 5 years Orlando's been hyped up, but always fallen flat.

Well, I don't know about that. Maybe if Wade was 36 yrs old I'd think maybe.

Re: Orlando's Offense
I think we can be the most efficient offensive team in the league next season. At the end of last season, there was lots of ball movement resulting in high percentage shots. With Redick we'll be even more efficient. Last year defenses gave Stevenson tons of wide open jump shots. Now, either Redick will be open or Dwight and Darko will have single coverage. Both situations are obviously big advantages for us.
