Re: Dwight Howard defensive player of the year?
That's doubtful right now, as the DPOY generally has a great deal to do with popularity as a defensive player. Also, Orlando as a team would have to be a great defensive team in order to get his name on the map. Now, a few more years of getting 12+rpg and 2 (pushing to 3) bpg and the team becoming a defensive force and it could be a reality, but not right now.

Not sure if Dwight will ever manage that many blocked shots. With Darko down low too, and his good block rate, we'd be blocking an insane amount of shots with just 2 people. It's possible, but I think Darko will steal a few weakside/help blocks from Dwight.
Which brings up the debate, who's the best blocker on our team?

I agree, my point was he would have to be able to get atleast 3bpg for the next few years, not that he will be able to do it. I think Darko will prove to be the better off the ball weakside defender, which will lead to him averaging a better bpg, while Dwight will be the better one-on-one defender.

Yeah, I understood that. I actually think it could work out better, having Dwight be more of a one on one defender. By having Darko going for the blocks Dwight could possibly pick up less fouls. Not to mention Dwight is a bigger physical presence.
It's going to be a great frontcourt to have defensively in a few years. Darko has looked impressive in his tune ups for the WC.

Re: Dwight Howard defensive player of the year?
I don't think that it is out of the question. He has shown steady improvment with his "D" and hould be an All Star this year as well. I don't see Big Ben having the same numbers in Chicago, so this will leave the award wide open. 13-14 rpg with 2.5 blocks is a great start. If Howard's steal numbers are solid then he should be in contention.

Re: Dwight Howard defensive player of the year?
I think Darko is the better defender, but damn we have a great froncourt between those two, especially on the defensive end.

Dwight is the better help defender, Darko is the better on the ball defender.

Re: Dwight Howard defensive player of the year?
I think if the Kings do really well this year, and there defense is good ron artest will win it. I think Dwight Howard is a definetly a candidate with his rpg and bpg numbers. I havent watched him much so i dont know wut his strengths and weaknesses are.
Can u guys rate him on the following things for me:
Help Defense-
Low post defense-
Man-Man defense-
Pick and roll defense-

Re: Dwight Howard defensive player of the year?
His best friend josh Smith has a better chance to win it, Josh is a top 5 shot blocker already, is an above average perimeter defender. The only way Dwight wins it ahead of Josh, is if he gets more media attention. Me I personally think neither will win it, i say AK47, but he needs to stay healthy.

Re: Dwight Howard defensive player of the year?
I do think Dwight would have an outside chance of winning it if/when Orlando becomes a real Eastern Conference contender. With that will come much more exposure and regard ...

Best blocker? I'd say definitely Darko. Dwight gets blocks mainly because of his athleticism but Darko has the long arms and a real feel for timing blocked shots.
