If you were a GM...

I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thought of the job Otis Smith has done during the offseason. If you were the GM this offseason, what would you have done different as opposed to what Otis Smith has been doing?

Who would you have selected in the 2006 NBA Draft?

1st Round:

2nd Round:

What trades would you make?

Who would you sign off of Free Agency?

What would be the final depth chart be by the season opener?

C-
PF-
SF-
SG-
PG-

1st Round:Ronnie Brewer

2nd Round:James Augustine

What trades would you make?I would have liked to see Smith push for another defensive player. I'm content with Bogans, but I don't think he will be the answer for the franchise. Imagine someone like Tayshaun Prince in a Magic Uniform.

Who would you sign off of Free Agency?I would have really liked to see the Magic push for James Posey, but it's too late for that. The next best guy for this team would be Bonzi Wells (a quick fix from losing Stevenson, only Wells has been successful for a longer time).

What would be the final depth chart be by the season opener?

C-Darko Milicic
PF-Dwight Howard
SF-James Posey
SG-Ronnie Brewer
PG-Jameer Nelson

6th Man-Grant Hill

Re: If you were a GM...

So you draft Ronnie Brewer over JJ Redick yet somehow acquire Redick and start him over the guy you just drafted over him?

Re: If you were a GM...

Who would you have selected in the 2006 NBA Draft?
1st Round: traded up for Rudy Gay or drafted Rodney Carney, Ronnie Brewer, or JJ Redick in that order
2nd Round: James Augustine or PJ Tucker

What trades would you make?
Turkoglu and our first rounder in 06' draft to Houston for the right to draft Rudy Gay.
Traded for JR Smith
Traded Dooling away for a draft pick or a PF

Who would you sign off of Free Agency?
Stevenson for same amount he signed with Washington for or Bogans. The rest of my money would be saved for the 07' offseason.

What would be the final depth chart be by the season opener?
C- Dwight Howard
PF- Darko Milicic
SF-Rudy Gay
SG-JR Smith
PG-Jameer Nelson

6th Man- Grant Hill

the first few questions are hypothetical... the starters are predictions with the team that we have now. I should have clarified. Instead...

C-Darko Milicic
PF-Dwight Howard
SF-James Posey
SG-Ronnie Brewer
PG-Jameer Nelson

6th Man-Grant Hill

Well, that doesn't make any sense whatsoever considering the thread is hypothetical up until that point and the question is even written hypothetically (what would be the depth chart).

MickyEyez, do you think your roster would be an improvment over Orlando's current one? If so, how?

haha. thanks ralaw...

I think that brewer has a chance to be part of something special. He is a very sound basketball player that can create his own shots driving the lane, or he can take the open jump shot. He would be a better fit for the Magic with the line up that I typed up IMO. He's going to start out as someone that can be relied for defense and the occassional bucket. He is what i expect from Bogans, but he is younger and much more athletic. Posey to me is a sound role player already. As you can probably tell, that is what I would like to see from the organization. Players that can support our Big 3. The players from this squad would be willing to make the extra pass and our defense wouldn't be a liability.

Ralaw... I am a huge fan of JR Smith, but do you really think Rudy Gay is a good replacement for Hedo? I mean... I understand all of the upsides of Gay, but he seems to have stone feet (which is not good for a SF). What do you see in him?

Re: If you were a GM...

I would keep it pretty much the same. I would have liked to get DeShawn Stevenson back, but that wasn't really plausible. I don't think we should get any younger, like some of you suggest. This team is young enough.

But with youth comes inexperience. If I was a GM, I would be concerned with the future... but I would do all I could to surround my stars with role players to win a championship NOW.

I really am just in love with his potential. The biggest issue people have with him is his lackadaisical nature, but to me even if this was an issue it would fit the Magic because the Magic don't need him to come in and be a #1 option or a leader. He could easily slide into the SF spot, learn from Hill and provide the defensive and offensive versatility the Magic need. Having Howard, Darko and Nelson is great, but being able to add a talent like Gay would have been even better.

However, I also like Redick as long as he is healthy and can somehow duplicate some of the success he had while at Duke. If he can be a off screen guy and a spot up shooter, I am well and fine with him. However, next summer I would like to see the Magic make a run at Josh Howard.

Firstly, hobojoe isn't 16 and you're being dramatic. Secondly, he's been a Magic fan on these boards for a while. Your comments and attitude is unnecessary.
